Based on the results of the Seven Habits Profile, it is indicated that my highest scoring category was “Seeking to Understand”. In this particular category the three areas to score are “I am sensitive to the feelings of others”, “I seek to understand the viewpoints of others”, and “When listening, I try to see things from others points of view, not just my own”. These are practices I follow on a daily basis. Itt is my belief that in order to fully understand a situation one must take into account all aspects and opinions in order to come to a resolution. Currently, I am a member of the Culture and Communication Council within my company, part of my role is to communicate the concerns of employers to upper level management. In order to communicate information effectively it is important that I am in fact sensitive to the viewpoints of others and to see things from …show more content…
This category included “I value, and seek out, the insights of others”, “I am creative in searching for new and better ideas and solutions”, and “I encourage others to express their opinions”. I believe that since this category is also a high scoring category, it indicates that I put emphasis on being innovative, as well as collaborative. I believe that brainstorming with team members creates an environment of camaraderie and by encouraging open dialect that everyone feels values as part of the team. The next category is “Begin with the End in Mind”, which consists of “I know what I want to accomplish in life”, “I organize and prepare in a way that reduces having to work in crisis mode”, and “ I begin each week with a clear plan of what I desire to accomplish”. Based on the scores for each, I believe that my overall score shows that I belive organization is of the utmost importance. Specifically, I firmly believe that if one is organized it does in fact reduce the amount of work and/or stress in the event a chaotic situation
When members in the team brainstorm ideas, they will ask a lot of questions pertaining to the problem at hand and do a lot of research on it. They will also break themselves up into smaller, more workable groups to increase efficiency. In addition, the members do not just limit themselves to finding information online, but they also find out firsthand about the problem from the people who are affected by it. During their firsthand experience, they are very observant and enthusiastic in gaining knowledge from the people affected. Then, they will demonstrate, communicate and share everything that they’ve learned with the other groups. There is focused chaos during the sharing and the members are all very lively, flexible, and open. All ideas are accepted, and no idea is “bad”, no matter how crazy it is. After much sharing, the team will narrow down ideas by voting for them, and the ideas with majority of the votes will be shortlisted. When the members are tired after the brainstorming session, they will call it a day and end off on a positive note.

In Charles Duhigg’s book The Power of Habit, he asserts that individual habits can be understood and changed. Duhigg backs this claim with a description of the so-called habit loop which is composed of a cue, routine, and reward, pointing out the cues start habits and rewards signal the brain to remember routines. The author's purpose is to give information about habits in order to change them for the better. With Duhigg’s insight about habits, students can stop the bad habit of procrastination, the habit of delaying assignments until the last minutes. In particular, students should “recognize which craving is the driving behavior” of procrastination and change it as a first step to stop (50).
Chapter one, “The Habit Loop: How Habits Work”, discusses the journey of a seventy-one-year-old man who was diagnosed with amnesia after suffering brain damage to his medial temporal lobe due a viral infection named viral encephalitis. Although Eugene suffered from amnesia for fifteen years, he was still able to form habits and follow routines without any knowledge of it happening. After spending the past three decades studying the neuroanatomy of memory, the scientist, Larry Squire began focusing on Eugene to figure out how he could create habit loops without having any recollection of recent memories of his daily life. Surely, Squire was baffled when he had heard of Eugene’s unique condition because how could someone develop a cue and
How much do habits govern over our lives? “The Habit Loop” by Paul Minors, sets out to inform us about the shocking degree of control habits have in our brains. In the first chapter, Minors starts by developing a personal narrative about Eugene Pauly. Pauly was diagnosed with “viral encephalitis,” which damaged his ability to remember short term memories. Despite his condition however, Eugene was able to create and maintain new habits. Minors introduces how the Habit Loop works in the first chapter, outlining the concept as the main focus of the entire article. The second chapter highlights how habit completion anticipation creates cravings that can drive our minds. Furthermore, how companies such as Pepsodent and Febreze exploit this innate

This quote by Dr. King is the backbone of making change in any situation. The book Mini Habits by Stephen Guise further explains how impactful changes can be made in a person’s life by one “golden push up,” a term coined by Mr. Guise to describe the first baby step that leads a person to making a lasting change in his or her life or the lives of others (Guise, 2013, p. 13). Along with a brief summary of the key points of the book, this paper will further examine why I chose the book out of the list provided. Comparing and contrasting the main ideas of the book with scholarly information will help to further explain if and why I view the experience of reading this book to have been impactful. Book
Stephen R. Covey first wrote the self-help book entitled, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, this book has since opened the eyes and hearts to millions of people throughout the world. After discovering the success that so many individuals encountered and still encountering, Dr. Covey decided to write the sequel entitled, The 8th Habit: From Effectiveness to Greatness. This habit is explained as, “Finding your voice, your calling, your soul’s code and inspire others to do the same.” What does that mean exactly and how would one implement that particular habit into the business world? It is simple really, that is if you know what it is that you are working towards, having an end in mind. With some direction, a foundation, and a
Ralph Keeney of Duke University discusses in this broadcast the benefits of doing a Value focused Brainstorming. In almost any field of work, there is some type of brainstorming that needs to be done in order to make a decision. Ralph Keeney has brought up a new type of way in doing brainstorming. His study shows two properties/guidelines in doing a value focused session. The first is that each person is given no additional guidance so they can have their own creative thoughts. The second, is that no matter how many people are teaming up for to brainstorm, each individual needs to do some brainstorming on their own without a group. In doing this individual thinking, certain thoughts that would have otherwise been forgotten can now be looked
The Law of Attraction states that one sends out signals into the universe through predominant thoughts and feelings. Accordingly, the universe reciprocates whatever the individual is fixated upon, positive or negative. In another article dealing with the Law, I established that the Law of Attraction will work with any system of faith, or lack there of. In this lesson, we will discuss another fundamental aspect of the Law of Attraction; once the individual begins to apply the law's teachings, said individual must anticipate resistance.
The seven deadly sins, were originally; Envy, Sloth, Wrath, Avarice, Gluttony, Lust, and Pride . Today, I eminently believe that all of these sins are still highly relatable to society, I just do not think that many of them would be considered “deadly” in this day and age.
I can definitely relate to Patsy, about the bad habits. If I could remember how I acted as a child, then I would try to work towards that. I feel like I started my habits at a very young age because, my past was difficult and I knew it was wrong with what I went through. I feel like I can tell people what I went through as a kid which, I was sexually abused. But I know I have to drop it and move forward because I feel like it is holding me back. I started to close off my happiness towards the males in my family. I noticed that the people who hurt me, did not bother me anymore because my goal was to not be around them anymore. That is when I started to feel comfortable with not talking to people about how I was feeling because I felt embarrassed or ashamed. My bad habits started to kick in with me being shy, not confident, not talking to boys, and trying to show I was happy. I stay quiet because I feel safe and nobody will judge me on my voice or what I have to say or I have nothing to say. With that, I do not know why my mouth is always closed. A lot of people say I look mad or sad which I can understand but I cannot help it because its’ been a habit ever since I was able to understand my feelings. Now that I am talking about all these habits, I wish we did not learn them because, they are hard to let go.
