The victim considered to be the most significant was the second murder, Annie Chapman. At the time the second murder, Elizabeth Long, a witness, claims to have heard Chapman scream, “No!” at approximately 5:30a.m. (Douglas 61). Elizabeth ran toward the voice and claimed to have seen Jack the Ripper in the flesh. In her statement, Elizabeth described Jack as a man who was around forty years old, who was slightly taller than Chapman, and who appeared to be a foreigner. However, her perception of when the murder happened does not correspond with the time in Dr. George Philip’s report, who was the doctor who examined Chapmans body.
