Introduction
In this report we’ll be discussing the similarities and differences of tourism and event management within the chosen destination, Vietnam. These similarities can be related to festivals while differences can be related to business trips and locals events Vietnam is a country with nearly 90 million people, and over 6 million tourists visiting in 2014, reaching $4.5 billion in revenue and rising (Ha.P, 2015). With these numbers it is easily seen that tourism plays a large role for Vietnam’s economy. Tourism can be define as the activities of persons travelling to and from places outside of their usual environment for leisure, business or other purposes for less than one year (Getz.D, 1992).
Definitions
Tourism management is the planning and management of travel for people who are concerned with the planning of their own travel (Getz, D 1991). While event management is the area of design, production and management of planned events such as festivals and other celebrations, entertainment, recreation and those in the domain of business and corporate affairs (Hard, R. 2015). Without either of the two, tourism industries would fail as they both play a vital role in the sustainability of tourism. It is said that events are an important motivator for tourism for most destinations (Getz. D, 2005).
