The Similarities and Differences between Professional Football and Basketball Elbert L. Hereford COM/170 - ELEMENTS OF UNIVERSITY COMPOSITION AND COMMUNICATION I 11/27/2012 Daniel Gleason Thesis There are several similarities and differences between basketball and football as sports. The competitive nature of games calls for the society to express itself in these types of physical activity. Both of these activities require a finish goal where one team loses or wins in return giving the players and fans satisfaction and a sense of community. However when looking at the details of these games, they are completely different in regards to the equipment used and much more described in the following argument. Football is played on turf or natural grass where basket is played indoors on a hard wood floor. And the scoring is also done fairly different football players race down the field to an end zone where if they score they earn a total of 6 points they can add 1 extra point if they complete a field goal. In basketball scoring is done at a much higher pace and way more rapidly. Their goal is to shoot the basketball into a round goal post. These are just a few of the differences
High school verse Professional football is the topic of debates for a lot of football fans in the United States. Many fans like high school more because of pride and heart the players play with. Some football fans are drawn to the National Football League because of the awesome athletic plays that happen. The NFL and high school football have many similarities and differences. The main similarities between them are the field size and the basic rules of football. There are several differences between NFL and high school are the major rules, viewer experience, and the way the game is played
The NFL and college football have many similarities, most obviously they are both the same sport. Each side uses the same equipment and same rules for safety. On both professional and college levels, teams are all fighting for one goal, to win. Football is all about winning and teamwork.
Ever sports has a common goal and similarities but also many differences depending on which sport you play. Basketball and soccer are two of the most played and enjoyable sports in the world. They both have professional leagues that attract millions of audience. Basketball and soccer game are played with teams.
Professional baseball and football are two of America’s favorite pastimes. These two extremely popular sports have immense fan bases. Both sports require high skill levels, intense training, and athletic ability. Baseball is traditionally played in the spring, and summer seasons, whereas football is traditionally played in the fall, and winter seasons. The pool of players in the professional baseball and football league are drafted from two considerably different organizations. Furthermore, the rules, and game play are vastly different for each sport. Whether you choose baseball, football, or both sports, you are in for outstanding entertainment!
Football and soccer have never been really compared before, probably because alot of people think they dont have many similarities. But they actually have alot more in common that people think they do. Having played both sports myself i can tell you that they are very different in varius ways, but also very alike. It depends in what aspects you look at it that you can see differences or similarites. Off field soccer and football share different backgrounds. On field comparisons are never talked about but they actually have somre similarities. Yes football is more of a contact sport, and soccer more of a technique sport. But football does have technique as well, and soccer contact.
“It’s the sport of Kings, better than diamond rings…..football…..football.” (LL Cool J, 1986). All across the country, football, both college and professional, has its own cult-like following. Fans of both leagues eagerly anticipate kick-off whether it is on Saturday, for college football fans, or Sunday, for professional football fans. An additional fix is available for college football fans on Thursday. Professional fans get their extra dose on Monday nights. Admittedly, there are many similarities among the National Collegiate Football Association (NCAA) and the National Football League (NFL). Both have extremely loyal, boisterous, and diehard fans. Both play four quarters and the players try their best to get the ball across the goal line. Although there are more similarities in how the game is played, it is the differences that will have respective fans insisting one is better than the other. Differences, such as the two-minute warning, the knee-down rule, and over time, distinguish the professional from the collegiate player (See Table 1).
A main reason why college football is better than the NFL is because in college the timing in all around better. By the timing, I mean the rules that influence the time and the scheduling. College football starts a week earlier which means over 120 division one college games have been played before the NFL starts. College football has more games in general and starts off football season right.
James Naismith, creator of basketball, used a soccer ball as the first basketball. The game of soccer was originally played with an inflated animal bladder that was surrounded with leather (Leibs 67). Just as in every sport, as time evolves, so do the materials being played with. The materials begin becoming more durable, controllable, and affordable. During the Renaissance period, many sports were evolved and took a turn for the better. Although many sports were introduced during the Renaissance period; football, lawn bowling, and tennis were the three main sports that influenced today’s time period the most.
What I mean by this is that the NBA plays more fast pace, College basketball types of play is a lot more slow and composed. However when the games are close, then everybody starts playing a little bit more aggressively and little bit faster. The way College basketball is, is that they pass it around to try and move the defence so then they can find open holes and opportunities to score high percentage shots like lay-ups, dunks, and one’s or drawing a foul and shooting free throws. However, the NBA is more transition play, but sometimes they do play slow when they are up a couple points, they usually try to waste some time in the game so they could win easily. One thing is for certain about these two levels of basketball.
The biggest difference between the NBA and college basketball is the clock. First of all, in the NBA the teams will play four quarters of 12-minute basketball. Which differs from College basketball which is made up of two 20-minute halves. The NBA therefore gets 8 more minutes in a game than college games. Which will really stand out at the end of the game when average NBA games end at around 110 and average college basketball games end at around 70
Many problems going around about college sports and colleges athletes. Most colleges all over the nation allow the college to have sports but then there are some that don't. Being in a sport in college is just like basically having a job. You would need to be dedicated to this and not have much time for anything else. Practices can last anywhere from 4 to 6 hours a day just for one thing. Kind of crazy to think about something like this. Many people just simply don't have the time to do sports in college because they have a real job outside of school. This is different compared to high school because you would have time then and now you don't have much time for anything else at all. There are college athletes basically everywhere you go. Whether they play for universities or juts community colleges, it's all the same thing. The only big difference about this is the price differences. Universities are much more expensive then when playing for a community college so that's why people get scholarships.

Soccer vs Football Two of the biggest sports in the world go by the same name “Football”. Early evidence of soccer being played as a sport appeared in China during the 2nd and 3rd centuries BC. In China, it was during the Han dynasty that people dribbled leather balls by kicking it into a small net. Football as well as soccer are believed to have descended from the ancient Greek game of Harpaston which was a form of game played in the Roman Empire.
First, basketball is played differently than football. Basketball is a game of shooting the hoop with a rounded ball. There are two hoops at the end of the court that you must shoot in to score. The ball must be consistently be dribbling off your hand to the ground while moving at a fast or steady pace. In the other hand, Football requires a cone-shaped ball that must reach the opponent's other end of the field. There are two big Y shape at each field and at the end of the field will be a touchdown to score. Running will be the key to winning a football game while dodging other opponents. Furthermore, both sports are changeling and require hard work to play.
Basketball, on the other hand is played inside on a court. There are only five players per team on the court at a time. Players have to play both offense and defense simultaneously. The scoring in basketball is also different; points can be scored in increments of one, two and three, these are scored by shooting the ball into a hoop. Basketball is a game that is played by skilled people who can jump high, shoot well, and have great ball handling skills. Playing basketball requires you to have to have endurance, because running from offense to defense and back to offense requires you to be in great shape. Basketball is played at a medium pace and can be very exciting and nail biting.
