“A clean home is a happy home!” This quotation applies to the dilemma that is being partaken in this problem. In many cases, your place of residence defines who you are as a person or in this situation, as a community. I don’t know too many people that would like to visit or even live in an unsanitary environment. The land pollution that invades the streets of the small town could’ve been prevented but is solvable with the work of a proposition. I would like to propose a plan to improve the living conditions of my hometown. I suggest the residents of Waverly come together to conduct a cleaning plan throughout the entire town. As a result, the locked potential could be revealed and astonish the doubters. With the motivation and cooperation of the town’s people, we could limit the amount of pollution in the municipality of Waverly. The initial purpose of this essay is to find the solution to the litter found on the surface of the town’s surroundings. Before discussing on how to resolve the problem, we have to establish what exactly is “land pollution”. There can be many different ideas for the concept within most of earth’s areas. It is an occurring issue in today’s society that is overlooked by many in the population. Over a period of time, it collects and eventually blends in with the setting. It can be thought of as just a few pieces of litter here and there, but there’s more to it. Land pollution means degradation or destruction of earth’s surface or soil, directly or
“Waste” is a short essay in which Wendell Berry critically analyzes the growing epidemic of trash that is polluting the nation’s land, waterways, and the air. Berry explains to the readers how the remnants of floods and litter that leave farmlands scattered with trash, makes more work for the farmers who have to rid their land of the trash before they can use it. Along with the floods, roads and highways also lead to a barrage of garbage from people who are too lazy or ignorant to take proper care of their garbage, which Berry claims leads to “. . . a constant precipitation of cans, bottles, the plastic-ware containers of fast food joints, soiled plastic diapers, and sometimes whole bags of garbage,” (Waste 1) along the edges of their fields. The garbage of the country continues to be a burden for everyone, whether it impacts them directly or not. Although it would be impossible to eliminate garbage completely from the country, the waste could be greatly reduced. Most of today’s trash is a consequence of the laziness of American society.
All around the world, we tend to seek the best learning environments, as well as the most beneficial. What happens when the situation you’re happens to be one of the most polluted places on earth as well as having to wake up in the morning and breathe these chemical and cause harm to you and your loved ones. We see these cases in an abundance of places around the world. In savage inequalities we learn this is something many of the people have to encounter as a part of growing up in East St.Louis, Illinois, We get to hear the stories of individuals talking about the sewage and chemicals that they have to experience and in a sense makes us visualize what’s occurring around them. Factories and companies are causing these misfortunes for these people. As they keep dumping and spilling these chemicals in the neighborhoods where people sleep as well as the parks where children go to play. It’s outstanding that at night people can see their city glow, not with lights but due to the chemicals there are in the soil, the sewage on the streets and the fumes clouding the air like if it was about rain. As fumes become more relevant into the streets of Illinois, more of it is inhaled by its people, as scores
The creator of this report immensely dislikes the act of littering as it projects disrespect for the environment from both an ecological point of view and an aesthetic one. The author of this report believes that littering showcases an individual’s laziness and selfishness and lack of respect for animals as well as the wider community.
Humes focuses on Portland Oregon’s vaunted ecological approach to life. He points out the flagship effort Portland has put forth for decades to limit the negative footprint left by the population that live there. It is pointed out that while the citizens of Portland excel in so many eco-friendly categories they do fall short when it comes to the amount of trash they produce on an individual basis. Humes relates how the city’s leaders are now looking to new approaches in disposing of waste by using electricity to dissolve the trash to a molecular level.
Pollution is a large epidemic in society today, even hitting close to home in Pasadena. Pasadena pasted mayor realized there was a problem so he established the Volunteer Pasadena Program in April 2002. Citizen of Pasadena surpass expectations as they donated their valuable time to volunteer to help keep Pasadena clean. Citizens enjoyed coming out to keep the streets and waterways clean because they took pride in the city they lived in. The citizens that comes out to volunteer are people with a diverse background and a wide range of cultural. The city of Pasadena wants the volunteers to gain knowledge and understanding of the problems the city faces and ask he volunteers to help resolve them.
Few of my concerns is if there is a way to clean the air country's like this should put together a saving programme so they can have a cleaner source of energy which could be like applying for a grant for solar energy which, in this case, they will be using the sun for clean energy which may take away smog and provide cleaner air. Why is it important to have clean air? Because it makes it easier to breathe on the lungs and the oxygen in the air that helps keep you alive. You might need to know that CO2 can cause pollution that can cover the whole city and will not move when you breathe in pollution it is bad for you because of the fact’s some pollution has Carbon monoxide which is gas that pollutes the air and is mainly released by cars and other vehicles. Another one is Particulates which is like soot, dust and fumes that are released in the air which can be caused by vehicles, factories and smoke from homes burning coal for heating homes burning coal for heating. This is why I was showing some cleaner ways where you can get energy because the way I see it is it all can have an overall impact on your health wellness and fitness and not just your own but your kid’s and as will it could impact on how you learn
The viewpoint of ‘pollution’ or ‘dirt’ is completely different from culture to culture, and its category is influenced by the cultural situations.
As a species that continues to evolve and expand on this planet, humans have made many lasting impacts to their home. Some of these changes often go generally unnoticed, such as the shift in popular music, or fashion trends. Even transitions from job to job, or relocating to a new city seem to weigh lightly on the general public. However, unbeknownst to us, we as a species have a far greater impact on this planet than we would like to admit. Throughout our day-to-day lives we tend to unknowingly impact and mold or future. It can be something as simple as forgetting to recycle that jug of milk, or neglecting to clean up a spill after a self-done oil change. Even the foods we eat and the way we manufacture them have a lasting effect on the planet. Perhaps one of the more noticeable ways we as a society affect the Earth though is how we build upon it. With much of the global population centralized in urban areas, and there continued growth. It is interesting to observe the way in which this urbanized land reacts to human interference. One of the more interesting aspects of urbanization is the use and management of water. With the continued expansion of cities, and the modification of the land in which these concrete jungles cover, changes to land are inevitable. In his book “Urban Storm Water Management,” Hormoz Pazwash briefly summarizes some of the impacts urbanization has to land, and water quality stating. “Urban development alters the natural process of storm water runoff.
Littering is a form of land pollution, the destruction of land and misuse of land resources (Smith), that affects both water and air pollution. Littering is defined by Merriam-Webster as, “things that have been thrown away and that are lying on the ground in a public place.” “Drive along any road in the country and you'll likely see aluminum cans, paper products and other trash. Altogether, it adds up to around fifty-two billion pieces of litter cluttering up the landscape. That breaks down to more than 6,700 items per mile” (Lake). Littering can effect soil and water quality, which
The issue I have chosen to focus on for this project is the amount of waste left on the town of Aldergrove’s streets, trails, sidewalks and the Fraser River running through the town. The reason behind picking this particular area to focus on is that I live in and, on a daily basis, travel through the town. I’m also an annual participant in my Girl Guide groups street cleanup, the cleanup being managed by the Adopt a Street program. Seeing firsthand the amount of garbage that is left around has really put into perspective that something needs to change. By taking on this project I can be part of the solution by spreading information out to residents in Aldergrove about the garbage build up’s detriment to the environment and organisms within.
When the cheapest easiest path was taken, things had negative effects. When garbage is put in landfills the pollution seeps into groundwater, and causes contamination. This causes an environmental problem. The first dilemma grew to a bigger, unfixable problem. In the story when the procedure was given to the poor to cure poverty “the old began vanishing without a trace” (5).
The theme “Interaction between Humans and the Environment” shows the ways in which environment shapes societies and how humans shape the environment. An example for this theme is the discussion about the geography of Chicago and its sewage system. Chicago, a city built on an unforgivably flat land, had drainage problems. According to How We Got to Now - Six Innovations That Made the Modern World, “The primary system for sanitation removal was scavenging pigs roaming the streets, devouring the refuse that the humans left behind” (page 128). As the population grew, the filth accumulates. Ellis Chesbrough, the chief in cleaning project of the Chicago, devised a plan that was successful in removing the city’s waste, but there was one major fatal flaw. Almost all the sewer pipes drained into the Chicago River, that emptied into Lake Michigan, the city’s source of water supply, thus polluting it. The author use this historical development to support his argument in the book. The invention of the sewage system in Chicago revolutionize the world of hygiene. It allows the city to get rid of their toxic waste so that the city remains relatively clean. Although the system
Oceans around the world are becoming more deadly as people fill them with nearly every type of man-made pollutant. They are turning into bathtubs; being filled with whatever the kids decide to toss in. Many refer to this issue as marine pollution or even ocean pollution. Ocean pollution is, “... the spreading of harmful substances such as oil, plastic, industrial and agricultural waste and chemical particles into the ocean” (qtd. from Rinkesh “Causes and Effects..” para. 1). No doubt, clean oceans are vital for every species on earth but man-made substances prevent the sea from being clean. Jacques Cousteau, a French explorer purposed, “Water and air, the two essential fluids on which all life depends, have become global garbage cans”
As years went by, the situation slowly changed, the beauty dramatically lost and the cleanliness completely gone. Today, litter is everywhere, and surely an eyesore. The available rivers in our cities that people used to be proud of, now have no water and are a source of pungent smells following piles of waste, which is quite hazardous to the health of humans as well as plants and animals.
In summer 2008, the pictures of Naples’ trash crisis spread worldwide. By that moment, I had been working on my thesis research, a journalistic investigation entitled “The other side of Ecomafia ”, for six months. It was the first time I worked on environmental issues, but I immediately realized that it would not be the last. The problems my land was going through in those years awakened an interest in these topics in me, which rapidly became a passion. Therefore, at first I was focused on the illegal trafficking of waste, but, step by step, I deepened and widened my horizons, concentrating on other environmental issues, such as climate change, and pollution.
