The South also has advantages that the North didn’t have or that the North didn’t have that the South had but the South had more than the North had of that certain thing. “The South’s best advantage’s, however, was strategic, it needed only to defend itself until the North grew tired of fighting (HOLT 513). What this meant is that the people that were fighting for the South were going to do enough to stay alive and then once the North started getting tired they would take that as an advantage and start killing the North so they could win. The “Southern farms provided food for its armie”(HOLT 513). This meant that the South had farmers that grew food to give to the armie. “Northern generals were often forced to attack Confederate troops from
Life in the South and life in the North were two different places. They both had different ways of life and how they thought. Geography was one way that life was different, so they had different ways to adapt to their environment. Economy was another, the South farmed while the North has factories. The last way was transportation. The North have double the amount of railroads compared to the South.
The Civil War was the bloodiest war in American history. America was split into two sides that had strengths and weaknesses against each other. It seemed they were the complete opposite. The North had more factories and railroads, while the South had more farms. Politics had a strong part to play too. The North had a better government, while the South struggled to form one. Finally, the North had a larger army throughout the war.
Good friendships make life easier. Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, is about two men, George and Lennie, who go on various journeys in order to get a job. Although George would consider Lennie to be his closest friend, he ultimately ends up shooting and killing Lennie. George did this, not out of hatred, but rather out of protection. A good friend will always want what is best for one another. Steinbeck uses his protagonists’ friendship in order to show that true friendship can help make any of life’s hardships less difficult.

A question that is frequently asked by people; why did the Confederacy lose the Civil War? The larger number of union troops is what most historians think. Within the book The South vs. the South by William W. Freehling gives a whole other perspective and bring the reader an entirely new answer to the question. The Author as well splits the answer into two being, “the defeat of the Confederate nation can be attributed to two interrelated groups: Southern white anti-Confederates and Southern black anti-Confederates.” Throughout the South vs. The South the author argues that anti-Confederate Southerners specifically, border state whites and southern blacks helped cost the Confederacy the war.
Abraham Lincoln once said to George Robertson “‘Can we, as a nation, continue, together permanently—forever—half slave, and half free?’ The problem is too mighty for me. May God, in his mercy, superintend the solution.” (Hobson, 1912) This he wrote in a private letter in 1855. It was another year before Lincoln felt ready to think about saying the same thing in a way that would be really heard. He made his position clear September 18, 1858, stating “I will say then that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races,” going on to say that he opposed blacks having the right to vote, to serve on juries, to hold office and to intermarry with whites. (Mintz, S., & McNeil, 2016) The Civil War in the United States was inevitable. The great sectional differences between North and South were far too great, and the main reason for these differences was the fact that slavery underlay both the southern economy and society. No one, not even Abraham Lincoln could dispute the growing gap between the nation at that time.
When reading The South vs. The South I come across the problem that the white Southerners had with the Republican wanting to free slaves. The problem persisted as the war continued. The view of white Southerners and Republicans which were led by the president Lincoln were different.
Nobody is constantly thinking about what it would be like to lose a best friend in the blink of an eye. In the novels Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and Of Mice and Men the main character pairs share a risky friendship that could dissipate at any moment. However, there are many incredibly strong qualities that cause the friendships to stick together through thick and thin. By comparing and contrasting the character pair of Huck and Jim with George and Lennie, a determination can be made as to which pair has the stronger friendship. Huckleberry Finn’s loyalty to Jim in Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is an important aspect that contributes to their friendship being stronger than Lennie and George’s.
