As I start my new chapter at college, I was given the opportunity to find my five top strengths in my life. The Strength Finders test by Gallup took about an hour asking me decision based question about society, beliefs, and personal decision of my day-to-day life. We later learned in that class how to focus on specific strengths and apply those strengths into my classes and course work throughout the rest of my years at the university and into my professional life. My strength include context, significance, command, woo, and competition, in which it focuses in my life and gives me the power, motivation, inspiration, in my daily life. First, context focuses on the past as it relates to the future. Because history repeats itself, I want to spend my life happy and joyful there so my future will be repeated history. I was taught for the people who are miserable and depress attitude constantly look at their past and never recover from their situations that made them to be in that state. The definition of context …show more content…
The Clifton report says “People who are especially talented in the Woo theme love the challenge of meeting new people and winning them over. They derive satisfaction from breaking the ice and making a connection with another person.” Maybe it’s the southern hospitality or the southern love I picked up in Florida, but the woo theme would have to be the most important to me. Being able to be outgoing and feeling joy and excitement when meeting new people will let me overcome the fear most people have. One of my life’s goal is to be knowledgeable of other cultures and their different abilities that gets the people going. As I am taking Human Geography this year, learning other cultures and talents has caught my attention. There will only be less than a hand full in which I have a no words to say, I will never be ‘lost for
There are strengths that I have yet to discover or recognized within myself. But, If I were to select only five strengths that I have recognized within myself, they would be: my strength of intuitiveness, the power of being a good listener, my willpower, the extreme organizational skills, and open-mindedness. All of the strengths depend on each other to thrive
Gallup’s (2017) StrengthsQuest assessment lists my five greatest strengths as competition, achiever, learner, input, and strategic. After reviewing the detailed descriptions of these strengths, I am confident that I can successfully apply these skills to my job as an investigator and further develop my capacity in leadership. Before taking this survey, I was certain that focus would be among my five greatest strengths, but after considering the book’s description of the achiever theme, I am convinced of the accuracy of this evaluation. Outlined below is my interpretation of these talents, their intrinsic drawbacks, and several illustrations of how they have helped me achieve success. I have also included a few examples of how I can implement
Identifying and understanding your own personal strengths is key to being a successful leader. Knowing your strengths means you can focus your efforts to maximize results, in yourself and in others. Strengths Finder 2.0 is designed to uncover your strengths and utilize these strengths to your advantage (Rath, 2007). Identifying and applying these strengths to your leadership style, will enhance your effectiveness as a transformational leader.
While factors such as family expectations, social needs, or organizational constructs exert considerable external influence upon a leader’s mission and vision, he still maintains a significant measure of personal authority in his overall motivational frame work (Adair, 2009, pp. 37-38). While the material presented or found online in preparation for this project were beneficial, much of the discussion focused attention on the definition and development of personal or professional mission and vision statements. As I wrestled with this process, I began to feel frustrated until I remembered the Gallup strength assessment a personal coach recommended in connection with Tom Rath’s book, Strengths Finder 2.0. Two primary strengths
Tom Rath’s “Strengths Finder 2.0” on-line assessment identified that my top five strengths are: Strategic, Focus, Futuristic, Significance, and Learner. I see the Strength Finder Assessment as a great opportunity to get to know my personal strengths and it motivates me to work and practice my talents rather than trying to fix my weaknesses. Looking only at my strengths is a new type of skills-building which allows me to stay focus on my talents.
My top strength identified was the Achiever theme. Achiever describes the need for constant achievement. Achievers have the capacity and the drive to keep taking on new challenges and strive toward new goals (Rath, 2007). This description is accurate in that I enjoy a new challenge and like to keep busy working towards anything with some sort of successful outcome. I welcome the opportunity to do something better, more perfectly, or more complete which motivates me to a higher level (Rath, 2007).
Tom Rath began working with a group of scientists in 1998 to start a conversation about our strengths (Rath, 2007). A 40-year study, led by Donald O. Clifton, helped to create a language of common talents, and in 2001, included this assessment into their bestselling management book Now, Discover Your Strengths (Rath, 2007). During their study, they found out that “people who do have the opportunity to focus on their strengths every day are six times as likely to be engaged in their jobs and more than three times as likely to report having an excellent quality of life in general” (Rath, 2007, pg. iii). A major problem with this was a majority of people were either unsure of or unable to explain their strengths (Rath, 2007). When developing StrengthFinder 2.0, the ultimate goal was to build upon your true strengths which take practice and hard work (Rath, 2007).
These strengths include organization, participation, and creation of checklists. I feel I stay very organized in this class, as I have all of my documents organized inside my binder ready for a notebook check. In regards to participation, I try my best to raise my hand nearly every class. I stay active and focused so that I can obtain all of the information. I also ask questions frequently which helps me to avoid mistakes or any confusion. My final strength, the fact that I create checklists, has benefitted me immensely. Checklists help to make sure all requirements are met for any project or essay, which is how I received a 91 on my Pilgrim Presentation and an 85 on my Canterbury Tales Short Essay. Checklists have helped me to score higher on assignments with multiple requirements, but not all assignments were as simple as creating a
I have acquired a great deal of strengths over the course of my education. Some I use more than others but these two strengths stick out for my strongest for my agency strength.
In my view, the ability to recognize personal strengths and weaknesses is a key skill needed to become a successful person. Upon the realization of my weakness in certain areas of my life, I work to improve myself in such areas and thus, consider this personal characteristic to be one of my strengths. Persistence is another personal strength that permeates into other areas of my life. The persistence to be good at anything I do helps me use my personal strengths to improve myself in the areas where I am weak. I set high standards for myself and believe in doing things well in order to be
Based on the Clifton Strengths Assessment my top five strengths are strategic, deliberative, learner, maximize and individualization. As an individual, I rarely look into my weakness. I believe that when your too focused on your weakness, you forget about your strengths. Everything the book said is true, and we need to take the time to look at our strengths and make it perfect. It is true that in this world or the school system, we are taught to look at our weakness and correct it so that we can become stronger in our life. This book brings out the truth that I longed to hear for a long time. Invariably, I hear my professor tell their students that for them success in life, they must practice and look at our weakness. This book proves it wrong because for us to become successful, we must stay to our strengths’ path.
My top three strengths are Deliberative, Relator, and Achiever. These strengths are important to me because they prove my point of my strong work ethic. I am deliberative in the choices I make at work so that I can keep up with my time management, I work to achieve the goals presented to me and I make an effort to relate to my coworkers and superiors to make sure that I am comfortable in my work environments. These values will help me fulfil both my career and college purposes because I will never quit and will push and keep trying to I achieve my
StrengthsFinder and StrengthsQuest empowered me to discover my five greatest talents that I can develop
Knowing one's strengths is a strength within itself. When one looks at herself and begins to search for her strengths, she realizes that finding them may not be as easy as it seems. After taking the time to evaluate myself, I found that diversity is my strongest quality. Though my class rank is not as high as I desire for it to be, I have achieved more than I ever thought I would while continuing to grow academically. While I made strides in my academic growth I was partaking in multiple clubs, extracurriculars, a part-time job, and a varsity sport.
for me, these talents are represented through my top five strengths that were given to me from a test I took. Two of my signature strengths that I think best fit me and are the ones that will help me be successful are Competition and Analytical. Competition by definition is when someone measures their progress against the performance of others, they also strive to win first place and revel in contests. Growing up playing competitive sports at a young age is what I believe led me to be in the competitor I am now. I think my Competition strength not only best describes me but, it may also be my best feature that I can tie into to my daily life to reach success and the goals I have set forth. Being competitive got me where I am today. I’ve be running for nearly my whole life, this year makes 11 years that I have been running track and cross country and it has truly paid off for me in the biggest ways. I think that having the competitive nature will always help down the line in life. When having the competitive nature my talent is valuable because it will influence and even push people in a group to achieve more than others. I will also bring energy to a group and will be capable of energizing others to move to higher levels of excellence. Also, being competitive also gives me capability of adaptation go different obstacles of life. It often applies to the class room such as seeking out highly competitive people and study with them. You will know that you will push each other to learn more, faster. Because of hardships and challenges I have faced during my running career I feel as if I will be prepared well enough for anything coming fast at a me in life, which will also help me achieve success in the
