Nintendo is one of the most popular video game industries to this day. It was founded in Kyoto, Japan in 1889 by Fusajiro Yamauchi. (Reference for Business) The Nintendo everyone knows today is primarily all about video games but it actually started out by producing playing cards. The company started to diversify and innovate and in 1970 it began to introduce electronic technology which became exceedingly popular. Nintendo has come a long way, from its first console, the Nintendo Entertainment System to its most recent the Wii U. Although Nintendo is an extremely famous company they, like every other company, still have to go through a situational (SWOT) analysis. A situational (SWOT) analysis is an assessment of the strengths and weaknesses in an organization’s internal environment and the opportunities and threats in its external environment. (Williams 115)A situational analysis helps companies determine the need for a strategic change. (Williams 115) The strengths of a business describe the positive attributes, tangible and intangible, internal to an organization and are within the company’s control. (Berry) Nintendo’s has many strengths that make it such a successful and powerful company. Nintendo is an established brand which gives a competitive advantage. Strengths (company’s internal factors from resources and capabilities)- Bass Pro Shops have a competitive advantage, which in the text is defined as “a firm has a marketing mix that the target market sees as better than a competitor’s mix” (Perreault et al, 2011 p. 47). The way that Bass Pro Shops has this competitive advantage is that its stores have become a tourist attraction making customers want to go into their stores to experience the unique environment that incorporates attractions and learning opportunities. In addition, Bass Pro Shops have gained recognition for their outstanding customer service. The people that
After seeing how the Nintendo Gamecube was doing many 3rd party developers did not want to work with Nintendo. Developers wanted to make mature games for the Play Station 2 and the soon to be released Xbox. Another reason developers shied away from developing on the Gamecube was for the lack of power and storage space with the discs (Thomas, L). Sony was using standard sized discs which meant that bigger games would be able to be played and developed, because of all the storage. Nintendo decided to try using smaller discs that had minimal storage and games would not be as big. This turned developers away and as of 2017 this decision Nintendo made back in 2001 still affects Nintendo.
The Nintendo brand has changed over the years, starting out as a simple card company that has expanded into the massive electronic giant we know today. They have had their ups and downs through their time as a gaming company but they always have the gamer’s interest in mind. As the late CEO of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata said, "On my business card, I am a corporate president. In my mind, I am a game developer. But in my heart, I am a gamer" (Yu, E., & Chan, W.
Nintendo started as a small Japanese business by Fusajiro Yamauchi near the end of 1889 as Nintendo Koppai. Based in Kyoto, Japan, the business produced and marketed a playing card game called Hanafuda. In 1956, Nintendo’s president Hiroshi Yamauchi began to realize the limitation of playing cards business because it was viewed as a mere tool of gambling. In order to overcome the limitation, Nintendo struck a deal with Disney in 1959 which allowed them to put Disney characters on their playing cards. This opens up new markets where both children and homemakers started purchasing playing cards.5 Due to this success; Nintendo went public in 1962 and became a listed company in Osaka Stock Exchange. Soon after, Nintendo started to venture in

What would it be like to wake up inside a linear world where turtles, mushrooms, princesses, dinosaurs, and a little mustached Italian plumber are caught in a deadly fight for their lives? The makers of Nintendo made this possible through the game of “Super Mario Bros”. In the late 1980s and through the 1990s, Nintendo was a major contender for taking over the technological age. As one of the biggest gaming console makers, Nintendo has supplied children all over the world with the opportunity to escape into a world other than their own, without them having to leave the comfort of their own home. I chose this book because I was one of those children and Nintendo has always been a part of my life.
A company’s strengths refer to what it does well to give value to the company. If a company’s resources and capabilities enable the firm to exploit an external opportunity and to neutralize an external threat, then those resources and capabilities are considered valuable, and are considered to be strengths (Barney & Hesterly, 2015, p. 67).
I think one of our strengths was corrective learning. In terms of strategic decision making, we were able to learn from some of our mistakes in the early rounds so that we ended up performing slightly better than how we started – in terms of net income, segmentation focus etc. which helped us

You may be wondering where it all started, where it all came from. Well I have the answer you see it all started back in September 23 1889, a young man named Fusajiro Yamauchi opened a small store in the middle of Kyoto. He was very young (he only just turned 13) but he none the less was the first owner of Nintendo. He didn’t just go straight to games, and he didn’t want to be like any other shops selling normal everyday good such as silk and tea. He wanted to be unique and start selling a product that the government had just legalized. Can you guess what it is? That’s right nothing more than cards. But these weren’t just some ordinary card these where Nintendo cards as seen in picture #1. You can see how different they were sure there where
