The story Holes is about a boy named Stanley Yelnats, who has the worst luck in the entire world because his great, great grandpa was cursed and he is sent to a Juvenile Camp in the desert called Camp Green Lake for a crime he did not commit. The boys spend their days digging holes in the desert because the counselors tell them that it helps them build character. The strengths of the book Holes is that it is a very adventurous and action packed
TO BILLY: Yes. The piece speaks of the dangers of human passivity, with a writing style similar to that of Ray Bradbury. With some revisions, I would recommend accepting the piece for the magazine.
Woodward and Bernstein served as watchdogs of our government officials in this book. This presented a plethora of challenges when they were investigating Watergate. Primarily, it was very hard for them to find sources that would be willing to talk and go on record. A lot of them wanted to stay anonymous, for example, in the book, “Deep Throat” served as the main source of information to Woodward throughout the book, however he often spoke in riddles such as “follow the money” and never revealed his identity. “Deep Throat” also ended up being the main reason that this scandal kept moving forward to President Nixon eventually resigning. The reason that sources did not want to talk is that they did not want to be affiliated with such a large-scale

The main character's name is Stanley Yelnats. At first, you see stanley as an alright kid who has made a bad decision stealing. “ I stole some sneakers” (pg 22). Throughout the rest of the story you find that stanley is nice and always seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. “He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time all thanks to his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather” (Pg 7). The first conflict the reader sees in Holes is Man versus Society. This conflict is mainly between Stanley and the town’s people. For examples, when stanley says, “I stole a pair of sneakers.” everyone did not believed it (squid and X-Ray) it shows that this crime was not big enough to put him to camp green lake but, it belong to clyde livingston. This conflict is resolved when the judge puts him to camp green lake for 18 months.
One Foot in Eden by award winning New York Times bestselling author Ron Rash is a story surrounding the lives of the people in the small town of Jocassee in South Carolina. A local Korean War veteran and town troublemaker, Holland Winchester, is missing and his body is nowhere to be found. The novel is separated in sections rather than the normal order of any other novel. It gives the story more depth. As the reader goes further into it, they soon learn how the lives of the people intertwine and what they have to do with Holland’s disappearance. One Foot in Eden has surely been analyzed by many critics and from very different perspectives. It is a very captivating Southern Gothic story loved by many. Has anyone looked deeper into what Rash
In the novella “Down the Rabbit Hole” by Pablo Juan Villalobos, the story revolves around the concept of innocence. What makes this novella different from other literature that discuss innocence is that the main character Tochtli does not actual move from innocence to experience but rather stays innocent but as the audience reads on they figure out that tochtli has moved further and further away from pure innocence. In the beginning of the novella in the short notes ahead innocence is explained in the context of the novella as being incomprehension. This is a theme that is revealed throughout the entirety of the novella. The novella Down the rabbit hole sets the scene inside a palace of a later understood drug lord, who is the father of tochtli, the main character. Tochtli is only seven and therefor does not have an exact grip on what is happening around him. Juan pablo Villalobos however reveals information in such a way that the truth escapes the innocent mind of tochtli but screams out to the readers.
I liked this book because of all the twists and turns, and plot holes. Somethings I think it could of done better on are including
The overhead florescent light flickered, casting a vomit-yellow pall over the seedy Washington, DC bar. The bar was called The Black Hole, but Arthur Pendragon thought a more fitting would be The Shithole. It was the kind of place where your feet stuck to the floor and the whiskey tasted like battery acid. They probably hadn’t washed their glasses since the Clinton administration, because each piece was covered in fingerprints; some even had lipstick smears on the rim.
The plot as I explained the kids must find a safe haven in an environment called The Scorch which is nothing but sand set in a desert environment but the story has some plot twist. For example, “Tired. So, tired. The gas. Teresa. Why did it have to end this way? Betrayal.” (299, Dashner). Near the end of the story, the character Teresa betrayed the main character, Thomas. Another example is “Food…my name is Jorge and I’m the crank that runs this place…Thomas we have a deal but, that injured boy has to die.” (158, Dashner).
