This is a view also expressed by Oosthelizen (1994) when she stressed the need for teachers to have an understanding of their students' knowledge and feelings about the subjects they teach.
In the present study, the researcher explored the attitudes of students in secondary schools towards learning Mathematics. Attitudes in this study is defined as "negative and positive" emotional relationship with or predisposition toward an object, an institution or person" (Le Roux 194). This definition explains the fact that altitude has to do with people emotions and this influences their behaviour. This suggests that altitudes determine individuals' experiences and reaction to life.
1.1. Background of the Study
A crucial situation arises when one is in danger but does not know. A problem becomes critical due to lack of awareness of its existence (Anonymous, 2002).
Considering the backwardness of educational development in Nigeria generally and Bwari Area Council in Abuja in particular, one may ask about the poor attitude of students towards Mathematics and poor educational background of the area in other science related
