The success of a healthcare organization is governed by the many qualities and attributes its leaders possess when overseeing patient care. Such care, whether executed at the micro, meso, or macro level, can be beneficial to an organization or result in the failure when change is inappropriately addressed. Leaders, by using their knowledge and expertise, must promote care throughout all the numerous levels of management that is a replication of bureaucratic thoughts and principles or one that is a replication of the complex adaptive system.

The complex adaptive system is a comprehensive system that is difficult in nature and often times can cause chaos and the failure of an organization when change is not properly managed. During the course of my profession, I have observed many styles of management skills and found this to be the most damaging one when change is implemented. I believe this style of control is what forces the good employees away. A prime example of this style of management was observed with the launching of computerizing charting. Computers, as you are familiar with can be challenging for some, and as well as, devastating. This is particularly true for the seasonal nurses who are not so reluctant to give in to any type of changes, and trying to comprehend something new can result in a toxic environment where chaos and conflicts are created.
