Jeffery Preston or Jeff Bezos is an American Technology Entrepreneur and a Leader, who played a major role in the growth of E-Commerce, as the Founder of the Famous online store ‘AMAZON.com’-(initially an online merchant or books, later provide a wide range of products and services). AMAZON.com can be considered as the largest Retailer as the model for Internet Sales.
Jeff Bezos was born on January 12th, 1964 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Jacklyn Gise Jorgensen who was a teenager and his biological father, Ted Jorgensen (Academy of Achievement- (September 30 2013). The initial success of the company was dramatic. With no advertisements or Press promotions, Amazon.com sold books across the United States and in 45 other foreign countries within a short time period of 30 days. By two months sales reached around $20,000 a week, growing faster than Bezos and his Team had expected. Bezos decided to increase the market share as quickly as possible, at the expense of the profits he made. Bezos had the intention of changing the tagline of being the ‘Earth’s Biggest Bookstore’ to ‘Earth’s biggest anything store’ and the critics called it the ‘one of the smartest strategies in business history’. Through each step of development Jeff Bezos followed or introduced ‘Six Core Values’ i.e. Customer passion, Ownership, Bias for action, Economy, High Hiring bar and Innovation. He is often considered as a manager with demanding standards and usually takes all the decisions by himself. Bezos possess transformational characteristics where he is termed as agent of change who seeks innovation. Amazons success stories in terms of revenues sales stock prices etc. prove his successful leadership style.
Work Environment at Amazon
Usually the work environment at Amazon is considered to be stressful. Based on reports Amazon is found out to have a stressful and inflexible work environments. According to Madeline Stone (2015) the employees at Amazon were asked to harshly critique their peers and those suffering personal crisis where pushed out of their positions. Moreover reports suggest that the employees has cited the fact that Bezos is highly prejudiced and informs those challenging him that he is the CEO of the company. So from this we can drive to a conclusion that Bezos Style of leadership is not satisfactory for the workers at Amazon.
