Apple Inc was founded by Steven Paul Jobs, Ronald Gerald Wayne and Stephen G. Wozniak on April 1, 1976 (, 2016) and has come a long way in the technology industry from being ranked 285 on the fortune500 in 2000 to its current position of 13. As of March 31 2016, its market value is $604,304M, revenue are up 27.9% at $233,715M and profits are up 35.1% at $53,394M and the total stockholder equity is at $199,355M. The current CEO is Timothy D. Cook and they currently have 110,000 employees. (Fortune500, 2016)

They also do offer a diverse range of products, even a more affordable range of consumer electronics which provides consumers with basic functions. They do also have a strong branding and loyal customers, since the slowdown from Apple’s innovation, Apple users are actually considering switching to Samsung. With the current global recession, consumers are looking at more affordable alternatives. Apple’s indirect competitors would fall under this range. Companies such as ASUS, HP, HTC, Nokia, Microsoft and LG are constantly improving and providing consumers with the affordable range of consumer electronics, mainly in computers and smartphones. These would fall under Apple’s indirect competitors.

SWOT analysis is one of the most commonly used techniques firms use to organize information to analyze the marketing environment for companies to come up with strategies. The four main elements are Strength, Weakness, Opportunity and threat.(Ennew, 1995)
