The bell rings and all the children scramble to their seats as the teacher begins class as usual, stating, “good morning class take out your notebooks and begin your do now that is placed on the board.” Within seconds every student grabs for their notebooks and begin doodling as the teacher walks around the room to ensure everyone participates and checking attendance. *Boom* the door slams and everyone looks up in shock. Eyes grow big and children begin to scream as a young man holds a hand gun toward the class crying and angry. Frantic and scared, the teacher stands at the back of the class. In such a malicious situation, what is the teacher to do? Now some people will say it is the teacher’s responsibility that their child is not harmed and that is why they should be able to carry firearms, and be capable of combating. Although, let’s think rationally about situations such as the one above, adrenaline pumping, everyone is caught in a state of shock and unprepared, and the there are multiple lives at stake here, would adding another gun to the situation be a great solution. Whether your answer is yes or no, reasons can only force one to meditate farther into the subject. Think about it, guns have never allowed for a safer environment, paradoxically having guns on a school campus creates an even greater threat, and furthermost educators did not go into their profession to be babysitters, just as they did not go into it to become security guards.
