The Texas State School of Mines was founded on September 23, 1914, enrolling 27 students on its opening day. (UT- El Paso 90th Anniversary Fun Facts) The University of Texas at El Paso had become the [final] name of the university on March 13, 1967. (UT-El Paso 90th Anniversary Fun Facts) “By 1970 it was apparent that diploma schools needed to change to academic programs,” (Our History) therefore the University purchased “The Hotel Dieu School of Nursing.” (Our History) “The school was sold to the University of Texas at Austin System,” (Our History) where it had “became one of the six UT system schools of nursing headquarters in Austin, Texas.” (Our History) This made “schools located in Austin, Galveston, San Antonio, El Paso, Arlington and Houston. By the time the school became disengaged from UT systems school of nursing in 1976, it was recognized into the College of Nursing. A master 's program in nursing was [then] added.” (Our History) This change made the nursing program a prominent addition to the University of Texas at El Paso.

In 1979 the administration of several other health program was “transferred to the college of nursing.” In addition, many programs were “moved from main campus to another volley of nursing.” This made the college name change to the “College Of Nursing and Allied Health.” “The programs that had been transferred were medical technology (now CLS), speech, hearing and language disorders, health sciences and kinesiology.” The “occupational
