Abstract This report explores the three genres of communication within the major of veterinary technology. Its purpose is to inform individuals about how these specific genres are present in this field. Methods, results, discussion and conclusions are discussed. To research these three genres of communication several sources were required. I initiated my researching with internet searches to find more information to support why these three genres of communication are the most significant in the field of veterinary technology. Introduction Veterinary Technology is a bachelors of science degree within the department of Animal Sciences. Veterinary Technologist aid in assisting veterinarians in diagnosing illnesses and injuries of animals. Communication is an essential part in the work environment of a veterinary technologist and plays a vital role in the professional success of hospitals around the world. Numerous genres of communication are present in veterinary technology. Individuals proceeding in the field of veterinary technology should have a clear understanding of communication practices involved in the field. Although there are various genres of communication in veterinary technology the three genres that I found to be the most significant are animal care reports, record keeping and emails. This report will go more in depth of how these three genres of communication are incorporated in veterinary technology. Methods To research these three genres of communication
A career as a vet tech can be overwhelming and stressful, and one must have the proper skills and talents to be able to handle the situations they will be put into. When thinking about a career in veterinary medicine, the animals are probably one of the first things to come to mind, but what about the pet owners? One of these situations is communicating with pet owners. A vet tech should be able to convey that they care about the animal as though it were their own. Also, a veterinary technician should have the ability to ease the nerves and emotions of pet owners to
“ My first instinct when I see an animal is to say “Hello.” My first instinct when I see a person is to avoid eye contact and hope they will just go away.” I have always wanted to help animals since I was five. I felt that animals can’t help themselves and I could help. The career of a veterinary technician is a gross and rewarding, because of all the different experiences that one will receive on an everyday basis. The research will describe the career of veterinary technician, what is required to become a successful veterinary technician, and the impacts this career has on today 's society.
People from different backgrounds may use and/or interpret communication methods in different ways because every family has their own way of communicating together. For example: some children might hear or speak more than one language at home or they could hear others swearing. This can affect children’s communication and how they communicate as adults.
Communication is vital in the profession of veterinary science. Both written and oral communication are important. There are many ramifications if there is a miscommunication between co-workers or the clients. The ramifications include; misdiagnosis, needed treatment is not given, and the clientele do not understand what is happening. There are several ways to prevent miscommunication, such as making sure the facts of the situation are both enunciated and written clearly.
A veterinarian technologist works under a veterinarian to help preform medical tests in order to further the diagnosis of animal's illness or injuries. Their responsibilities include: observing the behavior of animals, providing care to recovering animals, restraining animals during exams, bathing, clipping nails, and brushing and cutting their fur, giving them anesthesia, taking x-rays, prepping animals for surgery, collecting the history of the animal, and giving the animals the vaccines or treatments prescribed by veterinarians. Many people would not realize it but a veterinary technologist has to have a lot of physical strength. This is because they have to restrain the animals during exams so that no one is hurt, including the animal. They can specialize in different areas such as, dentistry, anesthesia, emergency care or even zoological medicine.
As technology and pet ownership grow, the need for veterinary technicians is increasing. In 2012, 84,000 thousand veterinary technician positions were available. It is projected by 2022, 109,800 thousand jobs will be open (“Technican Summary” 2014). According to The U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics, “Employment of veterinary technologists and technicians is projected to grow 30 percent from 2012 to 2022, much faster than the average for all occupations” (2014). Since technology in the veterinary field is progressing, the job projection rate is increasing. New positions for technicians include surgery, emergency medicine, and dentistry.
Throughout graduate school students are taught the proper way to write in their field. As a veterinarian the individual is expected to write predominantly in the third person and when citing sources they are expected to use APA style rather than the usual MLA formatting. Students are also expected and often encouraged to create visual and audio presentations that help inform and educate the general public. However, many veterinarians also have created multiple connections throughout grad school so that when speaking to these colleagues they often slip into less formal language. These are important relationships that offer a different perspective that is often useful in unexpected situations. As a veterinarian the individual is exposed to multiple audiences both in real world and academic settings. The most common audience
Are you passionate about pets? Maybe you should think about becoming a veterinarian. Can you care for the health of animals? Diagnose, treat, or research medical conditions and diseases of pets, livestock, zoos, racetracks, and laboratories? Well, this is the job for me. It is important for me to know the skills, the job requirements, and which colleges are best for a veterinarian.
A quote from F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby once said, “I was within and without, simultaneously enchanted and repelled by the inexhaustible variety of life.” The career of a Veterinarian is a sensational and phenomenal feeling, you’ll be introduced to new people, animals, types of medicines and treatments. This research will describe the different careers in the Veterinary field, what the necessities are to become successful and what type of impact this career has on society. This career is a justifiable choice for people that have a fondness and curiosity for creatures in the Animal Kingdom. People that grow up with family and friends that have the same passion, can drive them further into studying ways to help our furry, scaly and slippery friends. Companion, Equine, Zoologist and Wildlife Biologist, Surgeon and Animal Care are the types of work in the Veterinary field that will be discussed throughout this report.
Veterinary Technology and Technicians supervision with the veterinarian to help diagnosis illness and injuries animals in which perform the medical test by observing the animal’s conditions and behaviors Also provide nursing cares, emergency surgery, and preparation, collect samples such as blood and urine for laboratory and administer medications treatment prescribed by a veterinarian.(“Veterinary Technologists and Technicians” Career Information Center, 4thedition). As veterinary technology-technicians require to be registered an exam by AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) able to work field along veterinarian. However, need to have two years program of vet technicians also a four-year program for veterinary technologist experience
Professional relationships and there resulting achievements are never accomplished by a single individual. The farrier industry is no exception as farriers lack communication training. In the farrier industry several other factors may result in poor communication skills such as, stressful working environment, a tendency to work alone, educational differences (Moyer 2012), along with cultural and langue barriers. Interaction between farm veterinarian and farrier are crucial; therefore, communication skills must be encouraged, and developed. Others such as (Mansmann R.2003) highlights the necessity to have Experience and willingness to work together to solve problems.
Throughout the many years’ humans have been on earth we have always been studying other animals, and the way they communicate, and through the many discoveries we have found many animals that have shown incredibly communication abilities, like dolphins who are able to communicate with a complex language and Titi monkeys who talk with sentence structure.
As the years have gone by the technologies used by veterinarians have strongly improved and have advanced in more ways possible. Machines have been invented to help see smaller particles and to get a better view of the diseases cells, parasites and blood cells that have to be studied and tested in order to treat the animals.
In interpersonal communication there are many theories that are similar yet different in many ways. The theories can be combined to describe people and how those people interact and communicate with each other. Many of these theories help explain how people in society form impressions of others, how they maintain these impressions, why people interact with certain people in society, and how people will use these impressions that they have formed later on in life. These theories also help people to better understand themselves, to better understand interpersonal communication, and to better understand people in general. There are two theories in interpersonal communication that, despite their differences, can go hand in hand. The first is
Information technology is a rapidly growing part of today's society. It affects everyone's life in many aspects. Every human endeavor is influenced by information technology and the increasing rate at which what it can perform includes. One area of human endeavor that information technology has greatly influenced is the practice of medicine, specifically veterinary medicine. Not only has veterinary medicine been influenced by information technology, it has also been enhanced by it. The degree to which the practice of veterinary medicine includes information technology is observable at the Animal Emergency Clinic of Central New York on Erie Blvd. in Syracuse, New York.
