Scope
This report will examine the three important aspects of Sustainable Forest Management. In order to achieve this, sustainability and forests will be briefly covered. Then, to further discuss and understand Sustainable Forest Management, practices and examples of the economic, social, and environmental aspects will be outlined.

Background
Sustainability is the broad discipline and practice of balancing economic, environmental, and social issues, “while conserving resources, protecting the environment and ensuring the quality of life, all in a manner that makes economic sense” (Koch, Piñero 2012).
“Forests occupy one third of the Earth’s land area and are found on all corners of the globe” (Defenders of Wildlife 2012). However, approximately forty – five percent of Earth’s original forest cover has disappeared in the last eight thousand years and cleared mostly during the past century (Convention on Biological Diversity 2011). Everyday, forests are challenged with threats. Some of these threats include pollution, invasive species, deforestation, wildfires, and natural disasters.
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United States, the purpose and understanding of Sustainable Forest Management is “a dynamic and evolving concept that aims to maintain and enhance the economic, social and environmental values of all types of forests, for the benefit of present and future generations” (FAO.org).
There are seven criteria and indicators of
In my view there is a lot we can do for the improvement of the forest such as planting more trees, having government restrictions on companies that are into wood cutting business. The forests we have are one of the most essential sources of resources. There can be places of forests which can be a huge penalty for companies who try to cross the line. A moral responsibility from the side of companies can also be an ideal way as to them planting trees simultaneously or have some donation campaigns running around from which the money generated is used to plant
The affect of environmental issues occur everyday and in particular deforestation is becoming a highly ranked subject. From animals to the human race, the alacrity of trees that are cut down affects every individual in a variety of ways. Not only do people need to help the planet but they need to help themselves and further generations to come, such as children and grandchildren because these natural resources that are being taken away from society are as well shaping the future. For comprehensible reasons, forests use to make up the world, until man made creatures started to destroy and destruct the most important supply to human kind which are trees. Trees are crucial to every living entity for the reason of providing oxygen to all.
Sustainability means having a forest that benefits as many people as possible right now, but will also be there to use in the future (cite). Sustainability is very important in B.C. as such a large portion of the province is covered in forests. This also makes the forest industry very important economically. These factors make sustainability of such a large forested land base very important for British Columbia in the present and the future. The BC government has made impressive bounds towards making its forests sustainable. With the efforts that BC’s government is making, it has made management of its forests sustainable. This paper will look at the forests of BC and the effective policies put in place that make the forests of the province
Sustainability relates to the ongoing capacity of Earth to maintain all life, which means developing ways to ensure that all resources on Earth are used and managed responsibly so they can be maintained for future generations.
Deforestation is the destruction of a wide area of forest land into a cleared land that is used for a variety of reasons. The impact on the environment from cutting down, burning and damaging forests is very detrimental and there are severe consequences for the environment and future generations because of deforestation. According to the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization approximately 7.3 million hectares of forests are being destroyed per year in the world (Bradford, 2015). In this essay, I will explore the impact that deforestation on the environment and I will also look at the actions that are being taken to prevent deforestation. There are various reasons why deforestation is occurring despite its negative effects on the environment. Deforestation can cause very serious environmental problems such as climate change, flooding, loss of habitats as well as others.
Clear cutting forests can be proven to be an unstable way of practising forestry as its long term affects to an environment target the climate, soil conservation, biodiversity and hydrological regimes. Depleting forest resources will be given strict and serious punishment as it affects society as a whole and not
The concept of sustainability is about the capacity of the environment to continue to support our lives and the lives of other living creatures into the future. There are a number of programs to restore the river to maintain communities, fisheries and navigation, to ensure long-term sustainability.
Finally Since the 1990s Minnesota has witnessed an astonishing turnaround in the economic impact of its forests through a second forest revolution. Today, the
The RFA (Rain Forest Alliance will be denoted as “RFA” from this point on) explicitly expresses its efforts to uphold the sustainability pillar of environment with its stated efforts to “conserve biodiversity” and “transforming land-use practices.” Additionally, RFA conveys implicit undertones of an allegiance to the social pillar of sustainability with its mention of working to “ensure sustainable livelihoods.” Lastly, the organization touches upon the economic pillar of sustainability with a conveyance of its work to transform “business practices and consumer behavior.” Thus, evidently, RFA’s idea of sustainability is in great alignment with the three pillars of sustainability – the prominent framework for sustainability.
Our American society believes that forests in the United States are not managed sustainably. Yet, our forests are being managed for sustainability through sound application of science, commitment from individual landowners, and viable markets for products from the forests. Everything we do and everything we need to survive comes from the environment, so sustainability is what we as humans can do to make sure the environment is sustained well enough for future generations.
By 2020, promote the implementation of sustainable management of all types of forests, halt deforestation, restore degraded forests and substantially increase afforestation and reforestation globally
Ninety percent of the earth’s trees between three and four hundred years old have been cut down. The remaining ten percent is all we will ever have (Gallant, 97). The definition of deforestation by the Random House Dictionary of the English Language is "to divest or clear of forests or trees.” Deforestation is one of the most significant issues of our time; considerable measures must be taken to prevent further pillaging of our unique forest resource.
To begin, forest based industrialization is based on forest resources that are used to stimulate economic growth and development. One of the products that have been most important to human economies has always been wood. Wood is durable, light weight, easily worked, waterproof, and a good fiber source. Wood is used in almost every aspect of our lives, for building materials, living, and just surviving. We need wood to build our homes to live in and buildings in which we work and spend the other resource that comes from trees “money”. Studies show that 70% of the products that we use a day are made of some kind of wood. If we were to look around our homes and count all the items that are made of wood we would probably find that 60 percent are made of wood. Without wood humans and other species would never be able to survive.
Recently a research was carried out, and the scientist found out that there was only 31% of the forest cover in the world (Song et al. 2014). The percentage shows that over half of the world’s forest cover has been consumed over the years and things are not getting any better since people are still venturing the forest (Song et al. 2014). There is many types of pollution that could effect the forest ecosystem and if the pollution will still increase that will lead to a manmade forest.
I am appealing to you as a conservationist. I believe that the natural resources of the forest can be of great help to us. As we experience this oil and gas crisis in the US, we are forced to import oil from foreign countries. Thus causing the cost of
