The top three health risks that affect my family affect both sides of it, which is not very common. Both sides of my family are prone to heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes. Heart disease includes numerous problems, many of which are related to a process called atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is a condition that develops when plaque builds up in the walls of your arteries. This plaque buildup narrows the arteries, making it harder for your blood to flow. Heart disease describes a lot of conditions that affect your heart. One that affected my family is stroke. My great grandmother had a stroke which paralyzed her. A stroke happens when the blood flowing to part of your brain is suddenly interrupted or reduced, depriving the brain of oxygen causing brain cells to die. There are many risk factors that can cause a stroke for example having high blood pressure, smoking cigarettes, high cholesterol, diabetes, and sleep apnea.
Symptoms of a stroke include, trouble speaking or understanding. The person may experience some confusion and slur their words. What affected my grandmother greatly was paralysis. A person may feel numbness, or weakness in their legs, arms, and face. If the feeling never returns they have been paralyzed.(Mayo Clinic) A person may suddenly have trouble seeing in one or both of the eyes, may begin to see double. Trying to diagnose yourself or someone else can be easier then you think. You have to think FAST. Look at a persons Face, asking them
