A classic is a novel that is enjoyed by many and only the best stories and movies get to sit on this throne to be considered a classic. Two excellent classic writers are William Shakespeare and Frank Baum. “Romeo, oh Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?” and “Toto, I have a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore” are famous lines from these stories. William Shakespeare is the author of The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, and Frank Baum is the author of Wizard of Oz. When you compare the two stories, each has its strengths and weaknesses. These books have been made into movies and remakes. These classics are often compared to one another in conversations about which one should top the list of classics. While most seem to understand the talking animals and the idea of wanting to go back home from Wizard of Oz. I believe that young kids wouldn’t understand the original movie The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet but would instead prefer Gnomeo and Juliet, a kids cartoon. The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is a love story that is considered a Tragedy, and rightfully so, because they the two main characters killed themselves so they wouldn’t have to live without each other. However, Wizard of Oz is considered a Fantasy, which makes sense because there is a talking lion, a scarecrow that walks around trying to give directions and a tin man that has feelings. The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet and the Wizard of Oz have themes that can still be used today.

The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet was written in the 1600’s which is shown by language and the way the characters spoke.
