September 11, 2001 (herein referred to as 9/11) was a day in American history, which will be remembered as the most horrific attack on American soil. This attack, carried out by nineteen Islamic extremists, was associated with al-Qaeda, and involved the hijacking of four airplanes. Two of those airplanes were hijacked and flown directly into the World Trade Center in New York City, New York. The third plane’s target was the Pentagon in Washington D.C., and the fourth plane was brought down in Pennsylvania where it is believed the passengers aboard fought the hijackers. This horrific day in history cost over 3,000 people their lives, and was labeled the worst attack on American soil since the attack on Pearl Harbor during World War II.

September 11, 2001 evil struck the United States of America in the form of ruthless terrorism. Terrorism that was sent from a terrorist group called Al-Qaeda, and leader of Al-Qaeda Osama Bin Laden. On the morning of September 11, 2001 19 hijackers hijacked 4 fully flued commercial jet liners and deliberately crashed them in buildings around the east coast. Two planes crashed into both the south and north towers of the world center. Soon after, both towers collapsed to the ground killing over 2,000 people and injuring thousands more. In Washington D.C. a plane crashed into the pentagon killing 184 and injured dozens more. Sending fear throughout Washington D.C. of wondering where the next plane might hit dozens of buildings were evacuated

At 9:12 on Flight 77, staff and passengers contacted their family and friends and air traffic control that the plane had been hijacked. Approximately at 9:36, Secret Service agents evacuate the White House employees to the Presidential Emergency Operations Center. The reason they evacuated the White House is because the authorities were expecting that another hijacked plane was going to attack either the White House or the Capitol (9/11 MEMORIAL - September 11 Attack Timeline, pages 20, 22-23). At 9:37, hijackers crash Flight 77 into the Pentagon’s western facade, killing the fifty-nine on board the plane and one hundred twenty-five military and civilian personnel inside the Pentagon. This had been the third attack on the United States within fifty-one minute. To help the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) find the hijacked planes, they ground all flights over, or bound for, the continental United States. At approximately 9:59, after burning for a total of fifty-nine minutes, the South Tower collapses within ten seconds killing many rescue workers and responders (9/11 MEMORIAL - September 11 Attacks Timeline, pages 24-25,28). Around 10:15, the damaged section of the Pentagon’s outermost offices, known as the E ring, collapses. No on was injured. On September 11th, 2001, the worst terror attack on US soil took place. 19 people associated with the Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda took 4 airplanes and carried out suicide to kill people in the United States. Two of the planes hit the World Trade Center, another plan hit the pentagon just outside Washington, D.C, and the fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. These attacks caused massive destruction, forcing the U.S to combat terrorism and “defining the presidency of George W. Many people can look back and remember September 9th, 2001, like it was yesterday. This day will be forever remembered in America’s History. This is the day the world seemed as it stood still. On 9/11, America experienced a major terrorist attack, which hijacked planes were crashed into the World Trade Centers in New York City, crashed into the Pentagon in the District of Columbia, and had a plane crash into the fields of Pennsylvania.

On September 11, 2001 four passenger commercial jet airliners were hijacked and as a result approximately 3,000 human lives were lost. When asked about 9/11, many can recall exactly what they were doing when they heard the news that a plane crashed into one of the World Trade Center (WTC) buildings and many Americans can tell you how it all unfolded and the reason behind such a travesty. The “official story” provided by officials, and restated by Sofia Shafquat, producer of “9/11 Mysteries: Demolitions” say that “four passenger planes were hijacked and taken radically off course, within an hour, two of the planes had flown into the enormous steel towers of the World Trade Center, creating fires and eventually toppling them” (Shafquat).

On the morning of September 11 2001, terrorists hijacked four planes from American Airlines and United Airlines with the goal of ruining the U.S economy. Two of the planes achieved their goal and targeted both towers of the World Trade Center along with the Pentagon, resulting in the death of approximately 2,975 people. The events that took place on this day had a great impact not only in America, but around the world as well. After this day there were major changes in air travel, new government regulations, and a financial crisis.

A Boeing 767 containing approximately twenty thousand gallons of jet fuel flew into the North tower of the World Trade Center in New York City on a pristine morning at 8:45 a.m. on September 11, 2001. The collision left a giant opening close to the eightieth floor of the one hundred ten story skyscraper, abruptly ending hundreds of people’s lives and trapping hundreds more in the floors above. As the evacuation of the tower and its twin- the South Tower- got underway by the local authorities, television news channels broadcasted live images of what at first appeared to be a freak accident. Then, eighteen minutes after the initial plane crashed into the tower, a second Boeing 767–United Airlines Flight 175–appeared out of the sky, turned sharply

September 11th, 2001 was a very traumatic time for the United States. On that day planes were hijacked and flown into the World Trade Center and caused the Twin Towers to collapse (“11 Facts”). Along with the Twin Towers collapsing, the Pentagon building in Washington, DC was hit with a plane and another plane crashed down near Shanksville, Pennsylvania (“11 Facts”). During the date September 11th, 2001 America suffered a tragedy that had not been seen in some time. Muslim extremists took ahold of 4 commercial planes and made them the weapons for their terrorism. They had 2 planes barricade into the World Trade Center buildings, one plane crash into the pentagon and the last plane was taken down and crashed into a crop field. This day brought out new heros and bravery but also brought an immense amount of death. Thousands of people were killed and their families paid the price, never seeing them again.

The September 11 attacks are the worst terrorist attacks ever committed on U.S. soil. On September 11 there were four passenger planes that were hijacked by terrorist. The first plane to be hijacked that morning was American airlines flight 11. This passenger plane was crashed into the north tower of the world trade center. About fifteen minutes later a second plane appeared in the skies it was united airlines flight 175 and it crashed into the south tower of the world trade center. Forty five minutes later the third hijacked flight American airlines flight 77 was crashed into the pentagon. The fourth and last hijacked plane was united airlines flight 98 this plane was crashed in a field in Pennsylvania after the passengers tried to stop the terrorist.

In the year of 2001 there were many events happening locally, nationally, and internationally. On January 2, 2001 there was a man in the Toledo area found dead in his house around 2am. The victim’s mother said there had even company over earlier before the incident happened, but this source doesn't say how it happened or who did it (“ToledoBlade.com”). The international event in 2001 as everyone knows is 9/11. Islamic fundamentalist terrorists hijack four U.S airliners and crashed them into the World Trade Center in New York City. September 11, 2001, millions of New Yorkers and American citizens woke up and started their day, unprepared and unaware for the catastrophic attack that would be taking place in just a few short hours. At 8:46 a.m., Eastern Standard Time, Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower. The impact killed all of the passengers and crew as well as hundreds inside the building. At 9:03 a.m., a second plane, Flight 175, crashed into the corner of the South Tower killing passenger, crew, and workers who worked on floors seventy-five to eighty-three. Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon at 9:37 a.m. killing approximately 185 individuals (History.com Staff). Because of the damaged to the support system, fires, and impact at extremely fast speed, the South Tower collapsed at 9:59 a.m. (Lipton and Glanz). Having heard about the acts of terrorism that had just taken place in New York and Washington, D.C., a group of passengers drove their plane, Flight 93, into a Pennsylvania field killing everyone on board but possibly saving hundreds of other lives in the process. The North Tower collapsed at 10:28 a.m. 102 minutes after being struck (History.com Staff). On September 11, 2001, almost twelve hundred people were wounded or killed by “coordinated suicide attempts” by Al Qaeda terrorists. In result to the four airplanes being hijacked and used for premediated reasons, the United States government instituted new regulations for entering the country and airport security as well as expounded on systems already in place.
