The Truth about Education Education is mandatory for all children. Every child is expected to go to school seven hours five days a week, and then to spend another three to four hours on homework daily. There is a quote by Mark Twain, “I never let my schooling interfere with my education.” By this he meant that he wouldn’t let going to school stop him from learning the life skills he really needed. Students are given little free time to learn the things they will need later in life. Kids grow up learning math and science, but by the time their formal education is done they will not know anything needed for daily survival. Also, when in school students do not get to choose how fast or slow the class goes. People need to focus on teaching kids basic life skills not just rely on formal education. Mark Twain 's quote reflects the sentiment that schooling never completes one 's education, on the contrary, sometimes it interferes with the process of education. He meant that he didn 't allow his personal knowledge to be limited to only what is taught in school, but was seeking knowledge from the world "out side the box". Schooling is the process of controlling the education of the students. Schooling implies learning things in school like math and english , while you can sometimes learn the most valuable lessons outside of school. Mark Twain focused on learning only the things that he viewed as important life lessons, and he did not worry about formal education. First of all,
Schooling is widely available throughout America with nearly everyone attending school up to at least high school, and most attending college. It has become possible for children of all ethnic backgrounds, all social and economic classes to attend schooling. However, schooling and receiving an education are two different concepts. Just because students endure years of schooling does not mean they are receiving the best possible education. All of this schooling is ideally supposed to prepare the child for adulthood, but is it actually doing this? In the article “Against School” by John Taylor Gatto, Gatto examines the schools and their system of education in order to inform people about the failure of the current education system. He introduces the idea that today's schooling system delivers an incomplete education, instead turns creative children into mindless machines, in order to spread awareness and hopefully produce change throughout schools.
I believe that education is not a luxury, but a need in this country. Some students in my high school viewed school as “something to do” (or not to do). It seemed to me they didn’t have a willingness to conform to society’s rules and instead rebelled which more than likely led them on a path of destruction. However, I honestly cannot place blame on just the students in relation to expectations. Urban area schools and students tend to have fewer resources which may give students a sense of hopelessness or an illusion behind
In early America, only a couple of schools were open, and children were mainly taught at home or were sent to a boarding school. In 1837, a man named Horace Mann led the Massachusetts Board of Education and he seeked free, equal, non-religious education for all social classes. This was a major step towards obtaining natural rights. In documents H and E, it shows that education is one of the most important things in life. For example, “... It does better than to disarm the poor of their hostility towards the rich; it prevents being poor” (Doc. H). This quote shows that having an education can prevent someone being in poverty because, if you are smart, then you can get a high paying job, which will prevent you from being poor. Another example is, “When he goes to school he walks quickly, and does not lose time on the road. ‘My parents,’ he says, ‘are very good to save some of their money in order that I may learn to read and write’...” (Doc. E). This shows that his parents were willing to spend the extra money for their child to get an education, which will give him a chance at a better life. Without having an education, you will not get very far in life. It is a necessity to life. Education really helped expand democratic ideals in the United States because, giving different class people the chance to attend school and get a free education is the best possible way to do it. You are giving poor and wealthy children the
Education is the light of our livings, is the key to success. Without education we wouldn't have reached the moon, or invent an intern-ate. It's big and important topic that deserve to look and spent time. As we know, the k-12 grade are the base of the higher education. Schools can make or destroy students . students go to school for at least twelve years before they go to a higher education. The right schools could prepares student to university and college education level. That's the reason we need charter schools .
There is definitely a need for some type of education. In my school, students would start school at the age of five, and go until they are at least eighteen. They school would also have a different schedule every day, so students don’t get tired of the same classes
They are not able to develop their thoughts and ideas fully in the classroom. Most of the children drop out of school and not being able to pay for a quality education. They would love to be like their friends going to prom, homecoming, and football games. It would be a dream for them to know what it’s like to graduate high school and go on as a freshman in college. To be able to have that experience of being taught by teachers, and professors that are invested in them and their lives. They would love to take interesting subject that would expand their knowledge and build on prior knowledge. These children would love to mingle with other students working on their social skills. Building connections with others, and learning about other families different than their own. Education is not free it’s a privilege. It is a gift and should be open to all who want to learn. Once you have an education you cannot have it taken away from you. It will always be a part of who you are. What your past experiences are is what has shaped and molded you into the person you are today. Learning is an ongoing thing, you learn about something new every day. You put information and knowledge into practice and use it on a daily basis with those you come in contact
What is it that’s making our country suffer from excelling in education? Very few would argue about the importance of our education system today. Issues such as lazy teachers, lack of parent involvement, and teaching useless information in class may hinder progress in today’s education system. An education plays a crucial role and is an essential tool, unfortunately, with all the jaded judgments; our students are not able to value their education. A proper education can open the doors to many opportunities that would have never been possible if it had not been for the knowledge and preparation that one received while in school. With the growing economy and desperate times, it is more important than ever for our country’s children to receive the proper education and training that is needed to allow them to acquire a good job and produce the revenue needed to live. Today's education system is flawed in many ways, and these flaws should be eliminated to ensure a good education for our future generation.
We live in a day and age where education is essential to success, where education is beyond K-12. It is our liberty to be educated and to find success. When our youth continue their education they shouldn't be piled with debt. The difficulty of continuing education shouldn't be the cost, but rather the curriculum. It is our right to afford continued education, to have qualified effective teachers, to have well-funded schools, to reduce classroom sizes, and to have better curriculums. The American government needs to invest more in our education system. We need to allow states to develop their own education standards. If we set these standards the United States wouldn't be 45th in world literacy but 1st. The United States wouldn't be ranked 17th out 50 countries in education, we would be number
Education is so enforced that parents who don’t send their children to school might even go to prison. A woman died while in prison for commiting that act. This raised a question whether this is a good system or it should be changed.
“I have never let schooling interfere with my education,” by Mark Twain. Mark Twain is differentiating between education one gets at school and education one gets from real life experiences. There are high chances that experience that a person gets from real world cannot get in school or college. A person cannot live his or her entire life with only knowing information or facts learned from school or college. A person also needs talent, skills, and real world experience to live. College is one of the good ways to get education and become successful in life, but I will not say that it is the only way because a person cannot go to college and achieve success too. There are reasons why one should not go to college, as college is very expensive, college wastes time and money, and college do not guarantee a job.
I definitely think A.S Neil is on the right track, when it’s about raising children, specially the part where he says “We do not know how much creation is killed in the classroom with its emphasis on learning. “ and right after that he gives an example with a girl who loves art, but her mother wants her to go to university. We cannot judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, or a monkey by its ability to stay under water. We are all different, with that said, school is not a bad thing. I agree with A.S Neil, just because a child uses his or her time on other things than learning, it is not a waste of time. From my point of view, it is important to make it clear what learning is, the definition of learning, because I think we learn all the time, especially children. I do not think forcing them to do math games or activities they hat, are going to make them more successful later on.
Education is a very important aspect of the lives of all people all over the world. What we learn, not just in the classroom, shapes who we are. We take our education everywhere we go. We use it when talking to our buddies about sports or music, we use it while solving a math problem, we use our education while debating with our family whether or not we should watch TV or go to the movies. Our education is the foundation of who we are, since every decision we make and every thought we think is dependent on what we know. Imagine how different the world would be if everyone craved learning to such a degree that at lunch tables all over the world the topic of conversation isn't who likes who, or how drunk
I believe that education extends far beyond the classroom walls, and involves many more people than students and teachers. People should be learning wherever they go, and should continue learning long after they’ve graduated from high school or college. Education isn’t something that can be quantified with tests or report cards, but is instead something that people carry with them. It’s a survival pack for life, and some people are better equipped in certain areas than in others. People with a solid education are prepared for nearly anything, as they will be able to provide for their own physical, emotional, and aesthetic needs.
Getting an education from a school for some reason is considered the ‘key’ to success. The key to our life goals and dream jobs, but why? We are letting a letter grade determine if we are smart or unintelligent regardless of any other acquired talent. Ralph Emerson states in “The Education” text, “the power of performance is worth more than knowledge.” This quote is extremely powerful because it can relate to a child. From day one, children are taught what to think and what they ‘need’ to learn. They are being brainwashed by these schools that should be called factories. Schools kill any sense of creativity and reasoning because kids and teenagers are so overpowered with a fear of failing and letting a letter grade decide what kind of student they are. Failing throws a label on our forehead and lowers self confidence all because test scores are so highly looked upon and all that people care about. Sooner or later, we are going to all be considered robots if we continue sitting on the conveyor belt in a factory. This path is leading us in an opposite way of
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” - Nelson Mandela. Without education, there is simply no telling of what this world would be like. There wouldn’t be doctors, lawyers, businesses etc. Life and everything around us would be fatuous. Schools and education give us a plan in life and help guide us. Throughout the years education has changed tremendously. It had its improvements throughout the decades, and it also has had its falters as well. Education in America is an issue in this country and it definitely needs to be tweaked and improved. Education is what makes us people who we are and what we will be. Nelson Mandela had it right, there is no weapon more powerful than education.
