What is the USTA?
The United States Tennis Association is the governing body for the sport of tennis across the US. Since being founded in 1881 the USTA has come a long way. Since then the association has gone through radical changes. There have been changes to the name and the organizational structure. In only 135 there have been over 50 different presidents.

Even though the association has gone through many changes, one thing has remained constant. The USTA’s mission has always been to promote and develop the growth of tennis. There are two main areas of focus to achieve this mission: community tennis and player development.

Community tennis refers to the USTA’s effort of giving every on the US access to the sport. It is focused on giving people the tools to go out and participate, along other members of the association, in a variety of tennis activities. Across the US the association works with the 10s and under divisions all the way up to senior adult divisions. Really anyone with the desire to play regardless of age, sex, skill level, or disabilities is given the opportunity to partake. Player development on the other hand, is more concerned with the development of world-class players from the US. Across the US there are 17 different geographical sections with more that 700,000 members. In these 17 sections there are many junior and senior leagues. The USTA organizes hundreds of tournaments across the US every weekend for juniors of different levels and ages. The USTA Junior Team Tennis program allows kids across the nation to be part of a team while playing the individualistic sport of tennis. Adults and seniors tend to take part in leagues, either individual or in teams, which meet every week to play with friendly
