EXECUTIVE SUMMARY According to the World Health Organization (WHO), in the year 2014, 39% of adults aged 18 years and over were overweight which amounts to a total of 1.9 billion adults. Of these, 600 million people were considered obese. WHO describes obesity as an excessive accumulation of adipose tissue that may result in impaired health. Body Mass Index (BMI) is used as an index to classify obesity. To calculate the BMI, an individuals weight in kilograms is divided by their height in meters squared. A BMI greater than 25 is considered overweight and a BMI greater than 30 is considered obese. Obesity can lead to many health risks such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, high blood pressure, strokes and even certain cancers (WHO, 2016).
