THE VARIOUS VIEWPOINTS ON ANIMAL EXPERIMENTATION 2 Various studies have been conducted concerning the health and welfare of animal test subjects and how products are tested on them. Many believe that the testing of animals is a beneficial achievement to our modern world. While others feel that the killings of millions of animals every year is not only inhumane but that it is detrimental to our developing world. Although the tests that are conducted on animals are greatly flawed, if methods of testing were to improve, it would increase the benefit for not only humans but for animals as well. Many people believe animal testing is very beneficial and necessary for human advancement. Due to improvements …show more content…
Since scientists have incorporated animal testing as the main foundation for testing products, it would cost too much to switch to a method that could potentially be inoperative and undependable. Orlans (1990) states that “it is a needed part of science and that it must be conducted in accord with certain human standards.” Many scientists are also very comfortable and content with the methods that take place today and don’t feel the need to change. “…most scientists are reluctant to move away from this tried-and-true model, mostly because mice are cheap, docile, and good subjects from genetic engineering experiments” (Dvorsky, 2015). Because this type of experiment has been used over a long period of time, scientists don’t want to initiate another method of research. This is due to the cheap cost of testing on animals, the reliability, and the submissive nature mice encompass which make a scientist’s job easier. Another reason why animal testing is seen as valid is due to the justification principle which is a belief that suggests that “because pain is an evil, anyone who causes pain in a being that can experience it must show that it is necessary and justifiable to cause this pain” (Tannenbaum, 1999).
However, conflicting arguments show great concern with the overall health and treatment of these animals. Many feel that the inhumane and torturous
Animals, whether cats in the house or lions on the savannah, reserve the right to life. The disregard for animal life has been equated to racism or sexism; acting on principles of disrespect for life and thoughts of discrimination (Animal Testing and Ethics). The continuation of animal testing and experimentation take an enormous psychological toll on humanity, leading to rationalization and flawed justification. To carry on this path would darken the mark this animal abuse is currently leaving on our humanity, one step towards yet another fault in human nature.
Animal testing is not only beneficial to human but also animals, at least to those who are not used in the experiments, such as pets and endangered species. Along with researching for new treatments and medicines for
Animal testing has been one of the issues that people are fighting overtime because of its moral. Even though some results of tests are successful on people, many people are still fighting for the animal’s rights. They believe that animals should have their own rights to live a free life where they belong, just like their species. In scientists point of view, animals have been one of the main subjects to test on, but a lot of them are currently looking forward to use and develop alternatives for the cruel act of animal testing.
Animal testing, also known as animal research or experimentation refers to the use of non-human animals to conduct experiments which seek to control certain variables that have the potential to impact the biological systems or behaviors under study. The most commonly used animals are usually mice, cats, rats, dogs and primates. More than 20 million animals are usually subjected to food, drugs, chemical and cosmetic testing each year in the United States alone (Sharma et al, p.1). These animals usually suffer and die in the cruelest of ways despite the fact that there exist more modern non-animal tests which have been found out to save time, money and with more educational value. This essay explains why animal testing is bad and provides
The animal experimentation is very difficult issue with a lot of people feeling very strongly of it, we are use the animals for the experimentation in different way, one of most big problem is for test the cosmetics, the images of animals with things put in their eyes for so we are able to look a bit better make many people very angry. Is it necessary?
Animal testing is also known as animal experimentation is the act of testing drugs, chemicals, cosmetics and acid on animals such as; dogs, cats, rats, mice, ferrets, hamsters and monkeys for many purposes. Today I will be focusing on cosmetics. Cosmetic companies create makeup, lipstick, foundation, blush, highlighters etc. All of these products are tested on animals before use on humans and I believe that this is wrong and should be banned in all countries.
It is estimated that each year over 100 million animals in the United States are used for animal testing (ProCon.org, 2017). This is unlikely an underestimate as it is impossible to receive a correct count worldwide. Thousands of animals are to be euthanized from the complications they endure from testing. Animals are used to test scientific developments and commercial products. New medical and non-medical experiments are tested on animals to verify the harmfulness of new medications or the safety of a product that will be used on humans. Although the importance of animal testing brings more medical advancement over the years using fewer humans in experiments, it is still an expensive way of researching inaccurate results and at the same time, it is a practice of animal cruelty.
animal testing is the reason we are still alive today with all the medical advances we have now.
Animal testing has become a controversial issue among many people in the world today. Some of these people involved in this controversial debate believe that animal testing is unethical and should be replaced by other methods. The other group of people in this debate believe that animal testing is necessary in order to research new products that cannot be tested on humans. Traditional animal testing forces animals to undergo numerous experiments for different forms of research. Medical, cosmetic, and many other types of research experiments use animals to provide the results on how the new product may affect humans. There are many people that support the use of alternative methods to animal research and then
Animal testing can have a different meaning for each individual, it can be both cruel and helpful in everyday life.
Although some people argue that animal testing has played a vital role in medical industries however, it has been proven that the majority of animal experimentation has no significant impact or breakthrough that could be beneficial to humans. This makes us question the validity of these experiments, and if they truly have any benefits. This idea is supported by Dr. Bross , the director of biostatistics at the Roswell Institute for Cancer Research who states that the conflicting animal results that have been found have never produced a single advance either in preventing or in curing cancer (as cited in Carlson, 2012, p. 398). The effort done by the scientists and doctors who care about people's health and work hard to provide safety for them
Testing on animals has been a thing for so many years now. In fact, many scientists believe it should be done before human testing. But with it being around for so long, it has become a subject of controversy. People around the world share their views and opinions about whether it's really necessary, and some even question if the process is even ethical. While it is sad that animals have to come to terrible fates, the process of animal testing is absolutely essential to test the safety of products. Besides the obvious benefit, which is that animal testing saves lives, results are generated quicker with animal testing, so diseases can be cured faster. Sometimes the illnesses cured can affect animals too, so humans aren’t the only ones benefited. Animals are also benefited by the guidelines put in place by the Animal Welfare Act, which makes sure that animals are treated fairly during the testing process. All in all animal testing is without a doubt crucial to test products that save both human and animal lives.
Many controversies are going on in the world on a variety of topics, and one that many dispute on is whether animal testing should be used for specific purposes or for all purposes. Animals take a large part on Earth, since they help the world and the human race with its desire of advancement. Commercial purposes of animal testing uses its subjects to find the safety level of certain products for humans. Scientific purposes of animal testing uses its animals for improvements in medicine and treatments for humans, and research for animals. Many concern over the wellness of the animals as well, which is why they argue on some cases involving the testing. Animal testing should only be in use for scientific purposes, because it improves animal
Thanks to animal research, many diseases that once killed millions of people are now either treatable or curable. Animal testing has not only benefit humans, but animals as well. Some animal testing has lead to life saving and life extending treatments for many of the animals used for testing. A complete alternative to animal testing has yet to be discovered.
Animal testing is not necessary to benefit the human society. There are many cheaper and faster alternative methods that help
