The Varying Portrayals of Love in Marley and Me, Safe Haven, and Fireproof

Throughout the media, love is defined in various manners. According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, “love is defined as a strong feeling or constant affection for a person.” Love can be demonstrated between a family, a couple, or even a pet. Oftentimes, in the modern world, love is often mistaken for several meanings. In the movie, Marley & Me, love is shown between an owner and its pet and the strong bond of love that they have for one another. Though, in the novel, Safe Haven, love is presented between a man and a woman. Another way that love demonstrated differently is in the movie, Fireproof; love is defined within a family. True love is a one-time chance, one will know if it’s true love. “She wasn’t exactly sure when it happened. Or even when it started. All she knew for sure was that right here and now, she was falling hard and she could only pray that he was feeling the same way.” (Sparks 106). Love can either hurt or heal the pain an individual is going through. According to Nicholas Sparks, “I truly believe that while love can hurt, love can also heal…” (88). Love is a magical feeling when it can heal a broken heart. The novel depicted love very accurately by presenting its through stages. The main characters had to build and strengthen their trust relationship. Once this stage was achieved, they loved and cared for each more than they would’ve ever imagined.
In the movie, Fireproof, love is depicted with in a family. A family that struggles and go through hardships but never lost hope. Love is an essential bond that can never be broken which can be shared in countless ways to show affection. The love between parents and their child is indescribable feeling of love because they’ll always support and care for you. Caleb’s parents were willing to do anything to save their child from the destruction that was about to come. In the movie, Caleb’s father was willing to save his child’s marriage to save his family from deprivation of love because he loved him with his all heart.
