The Very Serious Condition of Anaphylaxis

It is a very serious condition and not to be taken lightly. It has a fast onset and may even cause death. Anaphylaxis typically shows various symptoms. They can occur in the time frame of minutes or even hours. If exposure to the allergy is intravenous, the onset can be five to thirty minutes. Onset of food allergies can be two hours. Insect bites (bees, wasps, etc…) can also be a factor. The signs and symptoms include hives, itching, and swelling, of the affected area. With the swelling can also come a burning sensation. Swelling of the tongue and throat can also occur. Other symptoms may include a runny nose, red and watery eyes. Skin can also have a bluish tint because of the lack of oxygen. On the respiratory level, shortness of breath, wheezing or whistling sounds when breathing are factors. Painful swallowing is also a symptom. Symptoms also include: cramp-like abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, confusion, loss of bladder control. Headaches are also common because of the dilated blood vessels around the brain. Also comes anxiety and feelings of death or impending doom. Anaphylaxis is caused by almost anything, any foreign object or substance. The most common triggers are food, medication, and insect bites. Less common triggers are latex, food additives (salt, food colorings) and even semen. With children it is food that is the most common allergy trigger.…
