'The Witches Inciting Force In Macbeth'

Macduff enters Holding Macbeth's Lifeless head. “Hail King of Scotland!”, Cheer the people. How did it get to this? How did a soft-hearted and honest noble like Macbeth get into this position? The quick and easy answer is that it was the work of the three witches.

Shakespeare is one of the most influential and famous playwrights of modern times. A major reason his work is loved by so many is because of his insightfulness into the human mind, and one of Shakespeare’s greatest works demonstrating this is Macbeth. This famous play is about nobleman and military man Macbeth and how his tragic choices lead to his inevitable demise. The first and most trying choice that Macbeth has to make is whether or not to kill Duncan, the king of Scotland. Macbeth has to make this decision while being pulled in different directions by two conflicting forces. The force pulling him away from murder is his loyalty and humanity towards Duncan. The other force pulling him towards murder is his loyalty towards Lady Macbeth

Whenever there is a mass murder and dozens of innocent people die the world wants to know why the murderer would do such a thing. Sometimes, the murderer is acting under the influence of someone else. This is the case in William Shakespeare’s play The Tragedy of Macbeth, where the titular character commits multiple crimes after hearing three witches predict his future. In The Tragedy of Macbeth, the witches are the catalyst to all of Macbeth’s crimes. This can be seen when they convince Macbeth that he will become king, they motivate him to kill Banquo and they inform him that he is virtually unkillable and should fear MacDuff.

In Shakespeare’s play Macbeth, the main character’s goal is to become the king. Macbeth seeks to gain as much power as he possibly can and this ultimately leads to his demise. He hears the prophecy of the witches and becomes so obsessed with fulfilling the prophecy because it states that he will eventually become king. Having this information, Macbeth goes out of his way to force the prophecy to come true. He becomes so power hungry that he tries to force fate leaving him with an undeniable guilt for his actions, the loss of love from the people who once loved him, and a harsh death in the end.

After Macbeth died, I, Malcom, became king and had to deal with the collateral damage that was caused by Macbeth's greed and want for power. The losses of Duncan and Banquo were devastating. We shall find these three witches and punish them for what they have caused to happen to all. I, Malcom, vow to be a trust worthy king and have no foul play towards my people and friends. I shall make an effort to comfort and console the families of the ones whose lives were stolen from the world. I also move to outlaw all witches that do ill fate and foul play towards people. These events will be strongly fought against in my rule.

Throughout reading the play, Macbeth changes a lot from being a man of loyalty and honesty, to a man of whom is power hungry and greedy. This shows how the more power you receive the more power you want; which in many cases, such as this one leads to destruction. Many of the choices that Macbeth made were influenced by the power that he had, and this power began to take over him. This then lead to greed and destruction of not only others, but himself as well.

The Play “Macbeth” by William Shakespeare is shaped by supernatural forces with the use of the weird witches, the apparition of the ghost, and the floating dagger. These forces lead Macbeth to act in the way he did and add suspense to the play. The play opens with the three witches, and later on Macbeth and Banquo encounter them. They prophesized that Macbeth will be promoted to Thane of Cawdor, and then become King of Scotland. In addition to that, Banquo was told that his sons shall be kings, but never himself. Macbeth was skeptical about the prophesies, but until some of King Duncan’s men came to inform Macbeth that that he was to be named Thane of Cawdor due to the betrayal of the previous and condemned to death.   The tragedy of Macbeth comes about because of a single event in his life. If that one moment, the meeting with the witches on the heath, had not happened then Macbeth would no doubt have gone on to be a loyal and respected subject of King Duncan and, later, King Malcolm. However, the meeting did happen and the powerful force of ambition was unleashed within Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. It is the combination of these two factors, the meeting with the witches and Macbeth's own inner demons, that lead to tragedy, and make the play 'terrifying' in the Aristotelian sense.

    William Shakespeare's tragic play, Macbeth shows the gradual descent of the character Macbeth into the moral abyss.   Macbeth's yearning for power draws him to the murder of King Duncan, Banquo, and Macduff's family. It is difficult to understand how a courageous, gentle man such as Macbeth, could be involved in such villainous activities. In truth, it was the witches and Lady Macbeth that transformed into evil Macbeth's natural desire for control and authority.  The play, Macbeth clearly illustrates that wicked intention must, in the end, produce wicked action.

Macbeth destroys himself because of poor decisions. He trusts the witches; he listens when they say he can not be harmed. He takes what they say and runs with it, thinking that no person can kill him. Luke Wilson says, “Macbeth’s misreading of the prediction is the consequence of his concept of terminal majesty” (3). Macbeth will not have killed anyone. Macbeth is easily mislead, he misinterprets almost all of the apparitions and that is his downfall. The witches tell him to beware Macduff , but is also told that no man born of man can harm him. The witches are responsible for Duncan, Lady Macduff and her sons being murdered. The witches are responsible because they planted the idea of Macbeth becoming king in his head. If they would have never told him he would become king Lady Macbeth and Macbeth may not have been so devoted towards kingship. Additionally, he gets the prophecies and takes matters

Macbeth, as a play is a well-known tragedy that stills retains influence largely in the literary world but also the world as a whole. The issue of who the blames for the tragedy falls upon is a misapprehended topic, wrongly thought to be controversial at all. The blame falls solely on Macbeth for several reasons. He was the one to commit regicide and follow through on the actions incited by Lady Macbeth. He had complete trust and faith in what the witches said without even an inkling of suspicion that they might be using him and decided to take action rather than wait for the fulfillment of the prophecies. He made the decision to be a tyrannical ruler bordering on being a Megalomaniac. Macbeth is the only reason and cause that everything went awry.

In Macbeth the witches are the ones that fill Macbeth’s head with the information that he will be king of Scotland but it was Macbeth’s responsibility to decide what he should do with this information and to make the right choices. The witches should not be held responsible for his actions even though they did tempt him with the information but Macbeth was in no way, shape, or form forced by the witches to do anything. It was completely Macbeth’s fault for what happened to him in the end.

Personal power has the ability to be essential to greatness, and at the same time is able to destroy a person’s nature. Macbeth’s actions corrupted and destroyed himself throughout the play.
