Lauryn Berger 12/15/14 Classic Literature Essay 4/7 The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, by L.Frank Baum, is a novel that comes to life when a cyclone lifts Dorothy and deposits her in the enchanted country of the Munchkins.On her journey down the yellow brick road she meets the Tin Woodman, Cowardly Lion, the Scarecrow and the Wicked Witch of the West.Dorothy is a young girl from Kansas, the Tin Woodman is a man who lost his true love because of losing his heart. The Cowardly Lion was a lion who seeked to find courage in himself, and the Scarecrow seeked to have a brain and understand the world he was living in.The characters are trying to find the Wonderful Wizard of Oz so he can grant their wishes.By the end of the story the characters learn that what they wanted, they already had.The moral of the story is to use the gifts you were born with. In the Wonderful Wizard of Oz the author gives life to Dorothy’s companions, the Scarecrow, Cowardly Lion, and the Tin Woodman. “That’s why he went over so easily , remarked the Lion.” It astonished me to see him whirl around so. “Is the other one stuffed also?”The lion was given the ability to talk and have certain feelings for the surroundings around him. He seeked courage in himself because lions were supposed to be scary, and he felt he was not.“This is bad,” said the Tin Woodman, “for if we cannot get to the land we shall be carried into the country of the Wicked Witch of the West…” All of Dorothy’s companions were wishing for
