Philosophy and Goals I was exposed to the world of art when I was a young boy. I was fascinated by drawings, cartoons and comics and was highly inspired by my mother, who was an artist and also a writer. She was the one who encouraged me to pursue my talents as a designer though a career in design wasn 't something glamorous or high earning in my society. As I grew older, my passion for design grew stronger. I wanted to find out how things were done, I was curious how they were able to make graphics move. With my O Levels results in hand, I enrolled into a fairly decent art school. I worked hard those 3 years gaining as much experience and exposure as I could before I had to enlist in the army for my compulsory national service. I …show more content…
I wanted to be the one designing quirky music videos for budding artists or a fancy intros for a blockbuster movie. Finding a good school was next on the list to achieve my goal. Initially I applied for a design school in Tokyo, and was pretty excited to head down there and study as I find Japanese commercials and motion graphics creative and amazing. Sadly the 2011 Tohoku tsunami and earthquake happened and diminished any chances of my family allowing me to study there. As I continue the search for the next best school, a friend of mine from the states told me about the school "Academy of Art", I was intrigued and decided to research more upon the school 's information. She was also studying on the path to being a motion graphics artist and ask me to study along with her. I am currently pursuing my Web Design and New Media degree in the school and also doing freelance as the side to gain more experience and connections to reach my goal. My short term goals during this period of time is to be able to excel and be proficient in the software I use and during the holidays I would head back to Singapore and work for ad agencies to pump up my portfolios. However I am hoping to find an internship in a motion company during my last year in the academy to develop my skill sets even further. My long term goal would be to work for big motion companies like Sony or even crunchyroll where I would be able to let my creativity run freely.
I grew up alongside the wild Rocky Mountain Columbines, where the air is crisp and the winters are long. I spent my time engaging in the arts such as acting, writing, and creating. From a young age I was drawn to the world of imagination and found happiness through producing art. We all face and over come challenges within our lives and whenever I am faced with hardship I find comfort in visually expressing myself.
In the first months of college, I wasn’t so sure if I wanted to pursue architecture, finance, or engineering; I was utterly lost, unlike many of my peers. Over the months, I pondered on what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Then, I realized I was never interested in obtaining a job where I would sit at a desk and stare at some numbers on a computer screen for 9 hours every day. Through my daily routine and utilization of time, I realized I found less joy in the courses I applied least outside of the classroom, yet was intrigued that with the many hours I worked in the studio. I could work on a skill in which I could use in the career I wanted; a path in which I could leave a legacy through molding the world the way I wanted to see
My interest in the arts stemmed long before my entrance into high school, however that does not mean it did not have an impact on that career choice. I feel that several of the classes at Monrovia High School have either introduced or prepared me in certain mediums of art. Starting freshman year I took two art related classes: Intro to Art and Intro to Computer Graphics. If I had any doubts about my career choice, they were quashed by my experience in these classes. I was definitely appreciative that there were art related classes available every year of my high school career. Coupled with art classes through Ryman Arts, I feel that my art skills have improved considerably. Currently I am taking AP Studio Art at the high school, and although the class is rigorous in that many art pieces need to be finished quickly, it definitely has given me an accurate view of several art careers that require many art pieces quickly. All in all, I believe that my high school has
Creativity and art have been a significant parts of my life for as long as I can remember. When I was little and we visited my Grandma Carol in the summers, my favorite thing to do with her was make art. She taught me about so many different media, such as: acrylics, oil pastels, and the ink press. Sometimes, I would bring my sketchbook from home and she would help me set up art shows around her house. I would sell my art for a few dollars each, and then use the little bit of money I earned to buy more art supplies. As she introduced me to more artistic styles and mediums in the
During my first trimester, I took a course on computer programming, which heavily focused on coding games. It was a wonderful introduction to the field, and it was something that I found to thoroughly enjoy. It was also during senior year that I designed my own game. It wasn’t incredible, in fact, it was rather terrible. I designed a poorly functioning version of Pong in python; and while it didn’t work as it should have, I did manage to make user controlled graphics. It was also during this time that I learned that programming isn’t necessarily for me; but, I did learn that game design was a great career for me if I focus on the graphics portion. Which, of course, was always my favorite part. It would be amazing to see something that I designed impress millions of people in 1080p, which is precisely why I would love to study game
As I’ve said earlier, my most prolific dream has always been to one day work in the professional field of animation. To create living, breathing worlds with the tip of a pencil and the solid white plane of your average piece of printer paper. For years I’ve been practicing and honing my skills to reach this goal, but I knew that I would first need the proper connections, education, and mentorship of renown industry professionals to help me reach the bountiful zenith of my highest aspirations. And because of my employment, education, and extracurricular experiences, I believe that I’m adequately-equipped to see these dreams of mine become a reality. For instance, my work at the Madison Mallards baseball park during the summer of ‘17 has not only prepared me for the typical aspects of the workforce, but it has also helped me better interact with other people and build lasting connections. Almost everyday, I worked endlessly to garner profit for my employer and satisfy customers of all backgrounds. Almost everyday, I was tasked with working synergistically within a cast of colorful co-workers and managers. And finally, I was able to share with the management my unwavering sense of dedication to company policy and the
Q: Such a shame that you have to leave your work in visual arts, what do you think is next for you in your retirement?
As an artist, there are three current self-promotional career goals I have to achieve. My first goal is to be a freelance artist by selling my own artwork online. Most of my artwork consists of concept arts and traditional drawings. My second goal is to publish a children’s illustration book that I made before attending Art School. My aim is to sell my book towards children between 7-12. My final goal (and most important) is to apply for an intern at Pixar animation. I already saw a couple of interns that worked at Pixar and they said it was the mostly enjoyable career they ever have. These are my three goals and there are many steps to take in order to fulfill this dream.
I graduated from Hilliard Darby High School this past spring. My love for art began very young with my father who always made sure to encourage my creativity. I remember making coil pots with him during the summer and then painting them. In the ninth grade I took painting which I immediately became attached too. For the past four years I have continued to expand my abilities and strengthen skills with the help of my teacher Mrs. Kulick-Brown. From there I have completed several commissioned pieces for teachers and their families. Painting has taught me a lot about color and composition. During high school I also was involved in ceramics where I competed in the annual ‘Feats of Clay” competition. I love the focus and serenity I experience
For as long as I can remember I have always had the drive and passion to create works of art in many ways, shapes and forms. My creativity and integrity that I share with art is on many levels ranging from 3D work, video game design, physical pieces of artwork as well as digital. I believe that there are very few schools that would not only help challenge my abilities but be able to utilize them in many ways I would've never imagined.
I never stop thinking about being a film director. All these elements have given me a very broad outlook, with varying degrees of knowledge in a range of topics. I strongly believe that although some are not related directly, all these qualities will influence my graduate work.
Before I can achieve a degree, I must commit to my studies. Education is the strongest foundation in any career. As it stands, I have taken interior design, architecture, and all levels of art including AP studio art, which I am currently enrolled in. My Advanced placement and honors classes have
An endeavor to create a path for myself. Then, I realized I still haven’t picked a career choice of my own. Early on, my parents influenced to become an architect. This was logical because of my knowledge on how to draw buildings, but because of East Art Studio I knew this was not a path I made. In my mind I want to create things ,but not buildings or structures. East Art Studio influenced me to pick programs I wanted to be involved in and therefore made me figure out what I want to create. I dream on making technology and creating something that will connect people more than what the internet can do today. I don’t know how I will do it, but this is one of my aspirations.
studied various art mediums to explore creative talents. In my junior year, I decided to
Ever Since I was a little girl, I dreamt of becoming a skilled artist and seeing the world to uncover the mysteries that ancient artists had to tell. Art has always been a huge part of my life ever since I first held a crayon in my hand. From redrawing characters from
