World War I left Germany with many shortfalls, thus leaving them in the hands of the Treaty of Versailles. Rather unfair of a Treaty, this left Germany once again looking for another way out. A country resented by many had no other choice but to feel optimistic toward Adolph Hitlers empty promises… making it substantially simple for him to gain power so quick. World War II was fought between two main opposing forces, the Allies and the Axis forces. The Axis powers consisted of Germany, Italy, and Japan being the most dominant. These shifts provided: change in the economy, many jobs were made available, women left from being at home into the workforce, and gay and lesbians individuals often enlisted into the military. According to historian Allan Berube, World War II was known to be the “quintessential coming out party” for LGBT Americans. The war created a substantially new “erotic situation” conducive both to the articulation of a homosexual identity and to the more rapid evolution of a gay subculture (24). I believe that this saying is meaning that World War II was an opportunity for many LGBT to go out and have the ability of having some freedoms.

World War II was an event that shook the world, creating an era of stress and adversity. Even in such a difficult time, the world continued to grow and develop during the end of the war, benefiting the Allied powers and helping them get out of the war. The end of World War II was an era of highly significant major events, miraculous breakthroughs in technology and science, and political views and actions.
