The worlds biggest tsunami was in Alaska in 1958. The earthquake that hit was a 7.8 magnitude and it formed a huge tsunami that went up a mountain 1,722 feet high. This tsunami had a depth of 22 miles. The earthquake was a strike-slip. This tsunami hit Alaska and it affected Alaska and the Lituya Bay. The tsunami hit on July 9, 1958 at 10:15 pm. The earthquake was triggered at the Fairweather fault. The tsunami was 98 feet high (30 meters ). This was a mega tsunami due to the fact that it destroyed 1,722 feet of vegetation. The impact of this tsunami generated a local tsunami that crashed against the southwest shoreline of Gilbert Inlet.
