The Yellow Wall-Paper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman has several elements that classify it as a Gothic Story. One such element is a setting in a castle. While this story does not take place in a castle, Gilman’s use of “ancestral halls” illustrates a grand home. She goes on to clarify that the home can be rented very cheaply, and is usually untenanted. Over all Gilman’s description allows the reader to feel like something is wrong with the house.
“Still I will proudly declare that there is something queer about it.” This also gives the story an air of mystery and suspense.
