It all began when someone left the window open. Fifteen years ago I never would have imagined anything like this to ever happen to me, now, I cannot imagine anything else. I was twelve; my brother was only seven. He was too young to have to go through something like this. One summer night our air conditioning burnt out. Our house was hotter than it was outside, forcing us to open a couple of windows. My mom was alone down stairs; my brother and I were getting ready for bed. “AHH!” my mother screamed. Though abandoned, the house was still appealing. It never looked like a haunted house, yet it turns out it was. The once worn out furniture has since been replaced with brand new chairs showing a more modern style. My mom saw the wallpaper and fell in love. She always said it was a cute yet mysterious work of art that pulled the house together. Now I know that the wallpaper was mysterious. Day in and day out, my family worked on our new house until it was in “tip top” shape (as my mom always said). Never once did we have any suspicion of having evil birds trapped in our wall. Perching outside the house on the nearest tree, it waited all night until the perfect chance to sneak back into my brother’s room. Finally, the morning came making my brother and I go to school. When we woke up my mother was home, saying that she simply went on a long walk. I asked her about the scream, but she did not remember it ever happening.
