As part of the course requirements for my SL Physics class, I was assigned the task of conducting numerous experiments relevant to the topics which we were learning about. In these experiments I used different forms of thinking, including critical and creative thinking, in order to form a hypothesis, analyze the data, and then come to a conclusion regarding results and my hypothesis. While knowledge can be formed through the interaction of critical and creative thinking, such as in my physics experiments, the statement given in the title implies that knowledge is solely generated through the interaction of critical and creative thinking. I intend to demonstrate that knowledge can be generated in other ways by showing that either critical …show more content…
Unlike the logical, step by step approach of the critical thinking process, the process of creative thinking involves the development of an original and fresh idea, perhaps through brainstorming or sudden inspiration, that is typically a proposed solution or explanation for a problem. Such a process could be attributed to the formation of numerous theories within the disciplines of the natural sciences. Such scientific theories include theories such as Einstein’s theory of a static universe, in which Einstein asserted that the universe maintained a constant size or volume, as opposed to the idea that it could be growing or shrinking. The theory sounded viable as an explanation, and they allowed for Einstein to resolve some of the issues with his well known Theory of Relativity. However, what had seemed to be a plausible theory would later be found to be impossible, due to the existence of red shifts which were discovered by Edwin Hubble. As such, the theory of the static universe cannot be said to be knowledge since it does not satisfy the conditions of the Coherence Theory since the existence of red shifts actually denies the possibility of a static universe. This brings to light the major problem in the use of creative thinking to develop knowledge, which is that creative thinking only generates ideas and theories that might be
Elder and Paul (2011) posit, “There are predictable stages through which every person who develops as a critical thinker passes” (p. 1). I agree with this assertion. If we assume that the premise learning is a process holds true, then that process offers great insights of Elder and Paul’s argument. The later premise for learning as a process shows that a thinker must moves from regions of familiarity to unfamiliar one. Critical thinking requires that the person understand the basic concept of a theory if s/he is to think critically about that theory. The converse ideation where critical thinking precedes basic understanding is fallacious. This makes critical thinking process to be predictable.
This assignment will showcase your ability to recognize and examine argument structure. Please be sure to follow all of the assignment guidelines, which your instructor will give to you in class or listed below.
Voltaire once said, “No problem can withstand the assault of sustained thinking” (“Voltaire Quotes”) What Voltaire intended to convey was that extensive and critical thinking can allow people to arrive at rational solutions to problems. This is one of the reasons why the significance of thinking critically has become a popular issue that is discussed about in educational systems nowadays. It is imperative that students develop critical thinking skills and not just blindly be taught what to think, but rather how to think. Pure memorization will not lead to authentic learning; instead, encouraging critical thinking is what will help students evaluate problems and make reasonable decisions. As humans are susceptible to emotions, critical
I attempted to teach my friend how to drive when I was 16. There were four of my friends in the car when the lesson began. The car was totaled. My friends were hurt, I was hurt. I felt horrible as a juvenile for being responsible for that accident. I have learned that you should never listen to what a group of people is saying to you; you should think for yourself. Groupthink is a terrible thing.
According to The Critical Thinking Community website, critical thinking is defined as the ability to consider and to analyze information in an unbiased manner in order to make decisions and judgments (2013). Critical thinking is important. Blooms Taxonomy breaks critical thinking as Evaluation Synthesis Analysis Application, Comprehension and Knowledge. The components of critical thinking are: the application of logic and accepted intellectual standards to reasoning; the ability to access and evaluate evidence; the application of knowledge in clinical reasoning; and a disposition for inquiry that includes openness, self-assessment, curiosity, skepticism, and dialogue.
When the Judge admonished the Jury, he told them they must reach a unanimous decision beyond a reasonable doubt. The "hero" of this movie appears to be Henry Fonda, the first juror to vote "not guilty". He kept challenging the evidence by saying "isn 't it possible?"...that the evidence was wrong. Do some critical thinking on this...using a good paragraph answer if "isn 't it possible?" is the same thing as "beyond a reasonable doubt." Start with a “yes” or “no” and then eleaborate.
I don’t know what to write. The thought keeps running through my mind haunting me as I try to figure out my english assignment. All I can think of is negative stories that are sure not going to be appropriate for school. At this point I start to wonder about my writing abilities and thoughts begin pouring in before I have a chance to stop them.
Dixie: Amanda, I agree with you that in making personal decisions that I use critical thinking most of the time. It take me time to decide what I want and how the outcome will be. I find that if I don’t use critical thinking the outcome could be way different. Does it take you a long time to make a decision?
Although, critical thinking is a part of each individual daily life. A large majority of human resources professionals states that one of the most important skills that their employees would need to develop within the last five years is critical thinking. More importantly, critical thinking ranked higher than other desirable skill sets such as information technology.
Imagination comes from the word 'image'. It is the process of forming such images or ideas. God is a God of images that is why he gave us eyes to enable vision and the mind so we can imagine things. That is seeing on the inside as well as the outside. We see imagination at work in Genesis 11, "And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do." GOD allows images of His promises to be formed in your spirit and in your mind so that you can embrace it, work towards it's realization. The devil also projects images into minds.
Team 2’s Operational Approach for the Exercise was comprehensive, involved detailed planning, and exercised creative and critical thinking techniques. Team 2 did an extraordinary job in gathering the information, analyzing data, and framing the problem to present a holistic approach towards the Operational Art and Design for USPACOM CONPLAN 55XX. To assess Team 2’s critical/creative thinking practices the three following criteria were used: acceptability, feasibility, and risks. These three criteria will verify Team 2’s perspectives, address any false-minded biases, and challenge their rational in framing the problem.
According to the website, FactsForLife.org, “The first five years of a child's life are fundamentally important. They are the foundation that shapes children's future health, happiness, growth, development and learning achievement at school, in the family and community, and in life in general. Recent research confirms that the first five years are particularly important for the development of the child's brain, and the first three years are the most critical in shaping the child's brain architecture. Early experiences provide the base for the brain's organizational development and functioning throughout life. They have a direct impact on how children develop learning skills as well as social and emotional abilities.”
As adults, we may enter into careers that require us to use critical and creative thinking skills. In the workplace, situations such as teamwork, presentations, and crises require us to use those skills. In my previous employment, I was a crisis outreach worker working specifically with individuals who were developmentally disabled. I often received calls from individuals who either lived with a caretaker, particularly a family member, alone or in a care home. With every call that I received, there was always a new challenge. However, there was always that one client whom I would receive calls from for repetitious behavior.

Knowledge is generated through critical and creative thinking. Creative thinking is something new or original that is created with value. Critical thinking is a type of thinking that questions assumptions and validates or invalidates a current belief or something that is said to be previously true. Knowledge is created through the culmination of generally accepted assumptions and creativity. How do you separate general assumptions and creativity? These two types of thinking can be easily separated in regards to concrete or realistic ideas compared to abstract or original ideas however to generate new, acceptable knowledge critical and creative thinking must interact together. The questioning of established beliefs with the creation of
