Language is one of the most powerful mediums in the human world, and not only can language be expressed through words, but also visually and musically. Language is everything from words that are spoken and the silence that lies between one phrase and the next. I find out odd how in our culture, we try to label things black and white. It’s either this or it’s that, yet when there’s something lacking in language, we try to assign colors to it instead of letting things be how they are. I have two types of mediums that I feel shows the idea that things are visually and audibly black and white, but it’s difficult to leave it at that.
The first medium I chose is in fact a color picture, but what makes it similar

I must have spent a total of 10 minutes looking at that picture, even though there isn’t much to it. Even though it is a color picture, there isn’t too much color associated with it. The overall language that I get from this picture is pain. This is a really difficult picture to talk about especially because it’s a picture of me, but I think it became easier to talk about it and its language because I didn’t remember when the picture was taken. I also asked a few of my peers to give me their overall impression of the picture and it was exactly the same as my impression of the picture. They glanced at it then glanced at it again, noticing me off center. Then they spent a few good moments looking at my expression and body language.
The second medium that I chose is a song by Sarah McLachlan. The song is called “Angel”. It is a fairly simple song consisting of only a piano and her singing. There is no real intricate beats or rhythms, and the song is really clear. Anytime I listen to it, I have to listen to it maybe three or four times just to get the feel of it. I would categorize this song as black and white, but I find myself trying to assign colors to the song, as well as texture and smell. From listening to the song, I get the image of a rainy day towards the beginning, then the rainy day gradually changing to the sun breaking through the clouds. When she starts singing the chorus, I feel like rays from the sun are starting to break through
Everyone is given a gender the moment they are born. At birth they are either one of two genders: masculine or feminine. This gender everyone is assigned affects many of our day to day actions and our looks. However some people may evolve differently as they grow up and may not fit the rigid boundaries set for the sex they were assigned at birth. In recent years there has been a boom in a third considered gender: the transgender population. However with the boom comes the argument of to what extent should transgender people be protected by the government. Throughout the existence of transgender people, the rights of transgenders have been
Language has changed tremendously over the years which can be seen by the dwindling use of sophisticated vocabulary due to the fact that vocabulary used by other people has an influence on what words other people tend to use. Also, a person with higher authority, like the current President of the United States, language can cause a whole country filled with three hundred million people to say exactly what that person with power is saying. This is due to the fact that the leader has tremendous support which in result causes people to want to be like him/her. This changes their use of vocabulary which can cause an epidemic. In the case of President Trump, his simplified and overstated language is a true example of why sophisticated vocabulary
As one watches the first episode of season one; one could see Sheldon as an introvert. I saw the person as a guy that tends to want to keep certain aspects in his life the way it has been; never wanting someone new to intrude upon his daily life. It does seem however that Sheldon does give in to his roommate’s ideas from time to time for the sake of being a good person, but at the same time he gives his protest in his own way by giving some form of logic to any of his roommate’s ideas. It is fairly easy to see he voices his displeasure in participating on whichever he is asked to join with others, but in the form of logic he explains is unnecessarily long when in reality all he would need to say is no; Sheldon would often outright voice his thoughts in pointing out any flaws. No one in the cast seems to be angered by this at all, so I could assume that everyone just does not get annoyed much by him.
My choice for the visual analysis is a still from Shirin Neshat's Passage Series video (2001). This photo has a horizontal line running across it, which helps to frame out the subjects. This line also makes the land look very expensive, almost as if it goes on forever. There is also a set of diagonal lines that appear to lead our eyes to wind out to the horizon. A black shape is formed towards the bottom of the photo. The form of this shape is rounded. This black shape also makes for a large contrast and an area of negative space amongst the warm colors found in 3/4 of the photo. The strip of cool blue on top helps to break up all of the warm, sandy colors. There is a rough texture all across the warmer parts of the photo with the black shape taking on a smoother texture. Strong shadows and highlights make for strong value across the entire scene.
The Shrewsbury Public School system is one that is filled with diversity and staffed with a team of educators who are ready to meet the diverse needs of their student body. Among these diverse learners is a growing population of English Language Learners (ELLs), ranging in proficiency from entering to reaching on the WIDA performance scale. The student body of ELLs in this school district is growing at a rate that exceeds their projections, averaging five or more ELL students in each classroom. These students come from a variety of different countries and speak over 15 different languages including varying dialects, the most prevalent of which include Portuguese, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Russian, Polish, and Hindi.
To increase the duality between the two spaces black and white colors are used, the outside of the organic volume is clad with mirrored mosaics that generate a multitude of light reflections framed by a dark amazing background,

Anthony Goicolea and Caroline Vaughan's still life photographs both use lighting, mood, composition, and color vs black and white to bring out each of their views or outlook on the photograph and also their metaphorical purpose or intention. Anthony's photo is more of a unique and sharp image with a bright, bold, significant and meaningful mood. His photo has many sources of light and doesn't have very many shadows. Caroline uses the techniques to create a restrained or muted image with a major, and gloomy or dull mood. In her photo she uses one single light source, a dismal and dim background, and shadows throughout the photo.
This source addresses multiple questions regarding the writing center working with “language 2” students, such as if they should use the same methods with language 2 students that they use with English speaking students that have a lot of issues with writing. It explains that not all language 2 students have the same issues with writing and that each student has a unique situation that should be treated with care and attention. Their overall goal is to see what happens when language 2 writers and tutor work together when the proper training is involved. This source helps expand my research by providing more questions and solutions to the common issues between tutors and “language 2” writers. It gives both the tutor and writers perspective and
Language arts will help me in many ways when I want to stand out in my career. It will first make an appearance when I go to apply to a job. It will better my chances of getting the job over others if I have good language arts skills. Someone who has good grammar, knows how to document things, and can write a resume will stand out over someone who does not have good grammar skills. Also, by being able to document things in a good writing manner, I will excel in the career I want to be in. As a physical therapist, you have to be able to document how your patient is doing, what their patient is doing, and make side notes so that the doctor can keep up with the patient even though they do not see them as often as you. When documenting you should
As previously stated, this piece is made of both digital media and fiber elements. The use of color and surreal imagery is equivalent to perspective, brush strokes, proportion and chiaroscuro in the typical sculpture and painting. On the stage portion of the piece the figures contain brightly colored feathers and clothing. All over the stage are colored dots and while not as saturated as the figures, still stick out harshly against the black of the room. The mosaics on the wall are mostly abstract, even when portraying the human body. This way of depicting the subject as well as the frames emitting light, also help this portion of the display stand out against the black walls.
Unlike Still Life with Gingerpot II, the prewar example, Composition: Checkerboard, Dark Colors is not based on anything from the physical world. Instead of representing something, Mondrian conceived an entirely original composition. He merely filled in this

Everyone has a different interpretation of the word, “invention”. However the word is simply defined as; a new device, method of process developed from study and experimentation. An invention is just a mental fabrication; it’s a falsehood (Dictionary.com 2013).1 Although in the essays, “Why I write” by Joan Didion, “Life in a new Language” by Eva Hoffman, and “Basmati Rice: An Essay about Words” by Audrey Thomas, each author has their own view on the English language, how they each began inventing their own writing styles, and also their reasons for why they chose to become writers. These are the three things that make their definitions of invention very particular and their own.
