“A Pair of Tickets” by Amy Tan main character Jing Mei also called June May in the stories was born Chinese who lives in San Francisco, California USA and at the age of thirty-six she become curious and ready to find out what it means to be Chinese. Jing Mei trough the first part of the story believed that she does not have Chinese blood whatsoever and in strong denial, besides her sophomore Caucasian friends approved that she is an American teenager just like them. Suyann, her mother studied genetics in nursing school once told her when she was fifteen years old “Once you are born Chinese, you can not help but feel and think Chinese’’. “Someday you will see” (129). When the train arrived Guangzhou, she noticed that people are rushing, shoving on pushing them, she cannot help but compare how China transportation and American transportation has similarity and she said that “I feel as If I were getting on the number 30 Stockton bus in San Francisco” (132). She knows that they are in China, but feels like in America, so she started pushing people back like it is the bus in San Francisco. Not only the transportation that Jing Mei notice in China but to her surprise when they arrive at the hotel, it was close to five-star hotel with big screen television. While they are in hotel with his father’s family waiting Jing Mei can not wait to have a nice Chinese meal with them, only to find out that her fathers family wanted American food like hamburgers and french fries. After learning about her mother’s past, she started to admit that being Chinese its not horrific at all like she thinks in the early part of the story. Later after meeting with her father’s family Jing Mei and her father will catch a plane to Shanghai to meet with her twin sisters. After saying goodbye to her father’s family, she feels
