Theme Of Communication In 'Hills Like White Elephants And Cat In The Rain'

Heming’s “Hills like White Elephants” and “Cat in the rain” both represent the importance of women wanting to get attention from their loved ones, which they are not showing despite of their pride. One of the crucial points, to have a healthy relationship, is communication with your loved ones. Communicating better helps the person state his/her ideas so that his/he partner can fully understand his/her point. As long as we are communicating with each other, we can work through whatever problems we’re facing.
In both stories, face is communication itself. When Jig kept avoiding the question about the “operation” the American kept pursuing to get a reply from her. What Jig lack in my opinion is the way of thinking about serious situations and to figure out how to handle it without having someone like her boyfriend pressuring her to do the “operation”? In “Cat in the Rain” the wife demand to have the cat, but George is not bother in his wife’s wish and continued reading from his bed. Usually, women are afraid of the men’s reaction to what they’re going t say which is why they split it into pieces to see if we can catch up. In “Hills like elephant” when Jig consume glasses of Anis del Toro to see if her boyfriend will notice her wrongdoing and stop her childish demeanor, which he doesn’t because in my opinion he’s slow and thinks that everything is good and going according to his plan. In “ Cat in the Rain” when the wife tried to do something opposite and that’s her desire of getting a cat so she can care for as if it was her own child since George doesn’t provide any joy and sexual intimacy since they’ve arrived at the
