The greek myth told by Sophocles, Oedipus The King. Along with George Lucas’s popular modern film The Empire Strikes Back, a part of the Star Wars trilogy address questions that have been prevalent from the Ancient greeks and are still being pondered today. Both tales address Fate. In Oedipus The King, our protagonist Oedipus is constantly living with dreadful prophecies that are inevitable to prevent. While Luke Skywalker deals with his fate to become a Jedi Master. Likewise these stories deal with the concept of what family is and how it impacts your fate. Oedipus, blind, wanders the land in exile

Fate, another theme in star wars as everything that happens to Luke is almost predetermined while he fulfills his destiny to fight the Empire. The Jedi psychic powers come from psychic ability and future reading and other powers tend to be prevalent in the Star Wars universe. Luke seemingly feels like the life he is living and his fate is what it is because of who he is. As the son of a former Jedi he is almost set up to have an adventure and blow up the Death Star, twice. Star wars is a modern story that addresses the age old questions of if there is such thing as destiny and its relation to free will in human kind or in the case of Star Wars life kind? Luke deals with his fate not so much by choice which adds to the idea of destiny sometimes prevailing over free will as life may take the wheel on occasion.

Very similar to ancient Greek mythology and the story of Oedipus as there is a blind prophet who tells of a dreadful prophecy and despite all efforts to prevent it the future was inevitable to prevent and all efforts to prevent lead to the outcome. Oedipus and his wife for a long time don't want to believe the prophet and they do all they can to prevent the dreadful outcome but despite their efforts the prophecy word for word comes into fruition.
