Speaker 1 is President Obama and Speaker 2 is President Theodore Roosevelt. **= Quotes from Obama. A host of the debate announces the two speakers Welcome President Barack Obama and Theodore Roosevelt here to debate on sending our U.S. troops overseas. Obama: “Good day America. I am very well aware that Roosevelt thinks we should ship all the troops out to Afghanistan as soon as possible. I think that's a horrible idea. We are going towards multitudinous wars and we need better trained soldiers before sending all of our men and women into war. “ Roosevelt: “Our navy is big and strong enough. They need to fight the only way to end the way is to fight it 5 times stronger every time. I think we …show more content…
You failed to the the great depression and expanded the navy when there was no reasonable need to do so” Roosevelt: “No need to bring up past issues. We need to protect our country and without sending troops we will not be able to so” Obama: “No troops have been for more than 90 days since the combat mission ended.”** Roosevelt: “Yes, great, wonderful, but the war isn't over so obviously your plan is not at all that effective” Obama: “Why do you think your plan will be any better? How is sending out all of our fighters at once gonna result in peace.” Roosevelt: “Sending all of our people at once will cause more people to be fighting at the same time resulting in faster war end times.” Obama: “The death rate will be higher than ever sending out all of our troops. They joined to fight for their country not to guarantee to be killed.” Roosevelt: “You join the war, you get killed that's what …show more content…
We are supposed to let them fight till the war is over and death is not supposed to be a happenstance that they all die. We are supposed to train them to protect themselves during the war not send them out with the mindset that you are going to die” Roosevelt: “But that is what is going to happen! Everyone knows your chances of death are at least 80% higher when you join the military and even if you don't die you end up living with post traumatic stress disorder and all kinds of other mentally stressful issues.” Obama: “But telling the people this will put us back into the forced selection pick which is way worse than wanting to go into a battle and serve your country” Roosevelt: “Forced selection was a great idea it gave us a chance to have even more troops and put even more people into the war grounds” Obama: “We don't need every single one of our troops constantly fighting for a never ending
This quote shows some of the ideas that Roosevelt used during his run for president. They improved America substantially because these reforms were able to change America’s social and political conditions. Roosevelt was very passionate in trying to become president. While Wolraich may describe Roosevelt as unreasonable, he recognizes his passion and his progress that he made in reforming
“Yesterday, December 7th, 1941’” began President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the day following Japan’s fateful attack on Pearl Harbor, resulting in the in the tragic loss of nearly two and a half thousand American lives. A date so famously proclaimed to ‘forever live in infamy,’ and so it has. This inspiring speech to Congress and the American people employed appeals and other techniques in it’s mission to touch America’s heart, both with sympathy and indignation. President Roosevelt’s use of rhetoric is extremely effective in rallying the American people to the cause of entering a war so many were reluctant to support.
of the new president and administration. Since this was Roosevelt’s personal belief, we see this
Theodore Roosevelt’s thinking was ahead of his time, if people listened to him in the past our present and future would not be in danger.
President Roosevelt was correct in calling for national preparedness. The president of the United States had the responsibility to not only protect North America but also our southern neighbors. At this time he was not advocating sending American men to war, he was simply preparing a nation in case a hostile enemy attacked its borders or the borders of other nations within the Western Hemisphere.
It is not uncommon for a President’s approval rating to go down after he makes a big decision that involves a lot of American lives. So naturally, it is not hard to see why Barack Obama’s rating has fallen dramatically since he ordered the deployment of over 30,000 more troops to Afghanistan. He believes this will help end the conflict there, but many Americans don’t see it that way. Many are worried about the time frame he has set for the troops withdraw and eventual trip home. Eighteen months is a very short time to end a war that has been dragging on for almost a decade against an enemy that has an obvious advantage due to their knowledge of the terrain. History has shown us the difficulties of war, especially without public support. I
The common defense is the next main focus of this speech. Life, and Liberty are the main topics here. Obama says that “America is a friend of each nation and every man, woman, and child who seeks a future of peace and dignity, and that we are ready to lead once more.” And then he states that “We will begin to responsibly leave Iraq to its people” But then says “for those who seek to advance their aims by inducing terror and slaughtering innocents, we say to you now that our spirit is stronger and cannot be broken; you cannot outlast us, and we will defeat you.” Obama seems to have some trouble explaining what he wants to achieve. He says we as country are ready to lead, and protect our friends from any terror or slaughtering, and that we will defeat any one inducing terror. While Obama tells us that he will continue the trend of protecting our country and friends, he must be forgetting that he is the one that wants out of Iraq. So does he want to help our friends, the Iraqi people, or not? Contradictory statements won’t answer that question.
(Franklin D. Roosevelt)…” President Obama (previous lines) referrers to this idea in his speech differently than Franklin D. Roosevelt (previous lines), since the dangers and problems changed since
Franklin Roosevelt became one of the most successful presidents in U.S. history due to the three character traits of optimism, perseverance, and leadership. Roosevelt's optimistic attitude gave Americans hope to keep fighting through the Great Depression and World War Two, were most Americans were ready to give up. Jean Smith presents this idea when he quotes Roosevelt in his Presidential Biography FDR writing, “This great Nation will endure as it has endured will revive and will prosper. So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that only thing to fear is fear itself… The effect of the speech was electrifying, the praise all but unanimous. No one doubted that a new era had begun” (Smith 302-303). Franklin Roosevelt lit the fire back
“But, today I weep for my country. I have watched the events of recent months with a heavy, heavy heart. No more is the image of America one of strong, yet benevolent peacekeeper. The image of America has changed.
“We are strengthening our military to ensure that it can prevail in today’s wars; to prevent and deter threats against the United States, its interests, and our allies and partners; and prepare to defend the United States in a wide range of contingencies against state and nonstate actors. We will continue to rebalance our military capabilities to excel at counterterrorism, counterinsurgency, stability operations, and meeting increasingly sophisticated security threats, while ensuring our force is ready to address the full range of military operations.”
“That is very funny Obama, but you will not trick me because I am smarter than you. I am not moving my people to Pluto and I don’t care if you attack us because we will defeat you and Zoggar will remain ours!” raged Zog into his personal zoggaphone.
“Congress is not preparing to defend the people of the United States. It is planning
After gathering the American people’s attention, Obama states the “heroic work of our military and our counterterrorism professionals.” Generally he tells the American people that they made lots of progress on the war on terrorism. He says “our” because it tells the American people their efforts weren’t futile. He also uses this term to show the American people are part of the war on terrorism. Constantly using words of unity, Obama uses a mixture of ethos and pathos. He makes
"We are on their land. We are in their lives. We cannot stay in another country’s world or we will wear out our welcome in so many harmful ways." The next thing I asked him was if we should increase our military assets to help stop ISIS and his answer was once again no. "NO WE SHOULD not increase our present military effort against ISIS. We should continue to support the “Home Team” ( Arabs who live there ) as THEY FIGHT ISIS. We’ll give them superb technical support, current intelligence, satellite photos, and a few military “toys” to fight the good fight. Let ISIS be minimized and controlled by their own people. Keep in mind that we have active duty soldiers now deployed in over 100 countries. We don’t need more conflict, death, dying, sorrow, extended grief, and at times an unforgiving anger in those hurt and those who have lost. We should respond to outrage, ( Bashir Assad’s use of Serin Gas on innocent civilians and children ). We should respond to homicidal maniacs ( Kim Jung Un of North Korea ). We should respond to ISIS, Al Kaeda, Hamas, Boko Horam, Taliban, Muslim Brotherhood, Somali Pirates, Mexican Drug Cartels, and all forms of
