Theodore Roosevelt: Women's Rights Campion

Theodore Roosevelt was one of the most popular, important and progressive presidents of the United States. He showed many acts of courage as president, which greatly shaped the direction the county went in both domestic and foreign policy. Roosevelt showed courage even before his presidency, while he worked as a frontier sheriff across the midwest United States. Both his college education at Harvard and years of service as frontier sheriff prepared Roosevelt to be an effective US president. Roosevelt's courageous accomplishments had a very positive impact on the nation.

Instead of being dormant like a typical First Lady in her time, Roosevelt was determined to support human rights. As she held press conferences, Roosevelt was judged harshly by some people. Although this happened, she did not waver in her job to make change to the world.

Theodore Roosevelt was one of our greatest presidents. He created the FDA and improved the position of the presidency greatly. Before Theodore came to be president, the position of presidency was slow and wasn’t very interesting so he made the executive branch more powerful by starting new reforms and a strong foreign policy. The life of a president is hard. It is full of stress, responsibilities, and a strong dedication the welfare of your country. Theodore had to deal with all of these presidential stresses, taking up much of his time. On September 28, 1948, Eleanor Roosevelt delivered a speech titled "The Struggle for Human Rights" in Paris, France. In this speech, Eleanor Roosevelt places emphasis on the issue of preservation of human freedom, especially the political and moral significance we give it. Roosevelt’s speech thoroughly analyzes the perceptions of democratic and totalitarian countries. She especially targeted the Soviet Union, which criticized the Declaration’s importance of individual rights over collective rights. The United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that everyone should have the privilege of human rights without distinction as to race, gender, language or religion. She believes that this is a very pivotal subject matter because the issue of human freedom is decisive in the settlement of outstanding political contrasts and for the eventual fate of the United Nations.

For years in the United States of America, women have been battling for their rights. In the early years when the United States were colonies, under the English common law, “By marriage, the husband and wife are one person in the law. The very being and legal existence of the woman is suspended during the marriage, or at least is incorporated into that of her husband under whose wing and protection she performs everything,” (History of Women’s Rights in America). Now in present day America, Hilary Clinton gets the presidential nomination for the Democratic party and becoming the first women to lead a majority party, however she lost the election. Where the United States is today, America would not be like it is now without the leader of the free world, the president. Comparing both President Wilson and Ford, how they help women’s rights, what they accomplished, and how Congress had an impact.

Franklin D. Roosevelt is proclaimed to be the first modern president of the United States. In fact, after a closer look, one could say FDR created the modern presidency. With his establishment of rhetoric as an important tool, he learned to speak directly to the American people, who then thought of him as a trustworthy person. FDR also established the United States ' military base and put into motion many of the first steps towards alliances with other nations. His time in office also saw the addition of foreign policy as the executive office 's job, as well as the creation of the Executive Office of the Presidency. All these additions in FDR 's terms allowed him to define the executive 's job, which helped to declare him the first modern president.

On September 14, 1901 Theodore Roosevelt became the 26th president of the United States after President McKinley was assassinated. He was reelected in 1904 and won with the majority of the vote. Roosevelt became the youngest president to ever serve and still is to this day. President for the beginning of the twentieth century he did much to change the nation. From wanting to support African Americans, to helping mine works, and creating animal refuges he did much to continue to build the nation.

For many years, women have not experienced the same freedoms as men. Being a woman, I am extremely grateful to those women who, many years ago, fought against social standards that were so constricting to women. Today, women can vote, own property instead of being property, live anywhere and have any career which she may choose.

In the period of time following the Reconstruction Era the Progressive era came about, presented with abundant opportunity but also hindered by significant economic, political, and social issues. America was pining for a leader who could provide solutions to all of these issues, caused by rapid industrialization. In 1901, Theodore Roosevelt emerged as a leader for the progressivism movement, which focused on reforming the major issues that society faced at that time such as fear of immigrants and corporate greed. Roosevelt was recognized as a friend to the common people as well as a trustbuster, and this furthered his reputation as being the savior of the issues of the late 1800’s and early 1900’s because he pushed to reform as many obstacles presented to him as he could. Even though he gained his presidential spot due to the assassination of President McKinley he still proved to be the most effective president in dealing with the issues of the late 1800s and the early 1900s.

In 1872, Susan B Anthony delivered her Women’s Rights Speech, shortly after being arrested for illegally casting a vote in the presidential election. Speaking with a tone of anger and disgust in the way women are being treated, she yearns for them to acquire the same rights as everyone else. Her argument is composed by using several rhetorical devices such as allusion, repetition, and analogy to “prove to you that in thus voting, I not only committed no crime, but, instead, simply exercised my citizen’ rights, guaranteed to me and all United States citizens by the National Constitution, beyond the power of any state to deny.”

This book is about a woman who forever changed the course of women's role in American history. Eleanor Roosevelt was an extremely important figure in the history of the United States, especially during the twentieth century. The way the author uses the book to help the reader to feel included in Eleanor's life, makes the reader feel as if he knows Mrs. Roosevelt.

President Theodore Roosevelt was the outmost incredible president of our nation. He cared about every aspect of our country. He was remarkable, brilliant, and strong. He brought something different to the table of the presidential legacy. His personality, however was like no other, he was an impossible act to follow. Women have always been fighting for their rights for voting, the right to have an abortion, equal pay as men, being able to joined the armed forces just to name a few. The most notable women’s rights movement was headed in Seneca Falls, New York. The movement came to be known as the Seneca Falls convention and it was lead by women’s rights activist Elizabeth Cady Stanton during July 19th and 20th in 1848. Stanton created this convention in New York because of a visit from Lucretia Mott from Boston. Mott was a Quaker who was an excellent public speaker, abolitionist and social reformer.
