Considering the theoretical orientation that was most appealing, there had to be some research done about the theory. One must looks at the techniques used, the goals of the therapy conducted while using this theory, the theorist, who this theory is focused toward, as well as a great deal of other things to ensure that this theory will be a good fit. Analyizing these things can further allow one to consider their theoretical orientation and actually practicing it all while still learning will help make a deterining decision as well. Halbur & Halbur (2011) states that “Humans are shaped and determined by sociocultural conditioning. This paradigm is basically deterministic because all beahaviors are believed to be a product of learning through …show more content…
The main goal is to help clients learn to behave differently based on the behaviors that they currently have. By the end of the said number of sessions, the client will leave knowing that changing their environment can create a greater change within themselves while reinforcing new and effective behaviors will be more beneficial. In order to create environmental and behavioral changes, there are quite a few common techniques that are used such as reinforcement scheduling, skills training, relaxation techniques, charting, averison therapy, self-monitoring, modeling, as well as contracts and systematic desensitization. Some of these techniques are based on classical conditioing, operant conditioning, and social learning …show more content…
My current field placement is at Kent County Family Court with the Department of Services for Children, Youth and their Families, also known as the Children’s Department. Family Court has many locations, the current loctaion for my Field Placement is in Kent County, but they have Family Court in Sussex County as well as New Castle County. The department that I am interning with does a number of things for children, youth, and their families. The mission of the department is to assist children, youth, and families in making positive changes through services that support child and public saftey, behavioral health, and individual, family, and community well-being. They fulfill this mission in many different ways. They strive to make sure that every child has a safe environment to live in, stable housing, they aim for children and youth to embrace a sense of hope about their future and being optimistic as well as teaching them to learn and ways to expand their
The question of whether we are more heavily influenced by our surroundings and/or our upbringing as opposed to what comes naturally to us is a very controversial ongoing debate. This examination can be seen in the 1965 experiment known as “The John/Joan Case”, intended to test the theory of “Nature vs Nurture”. This dispute within psychology is concerned with the extent to which particular aspects of behavior are a product of either inherited or acquired characteristics. “Nature is all that a man brings with himself into the world; nurture is every influence without that affects him after his birth.” (Galton)
Conditioning is the result of all the factors in our environment. No part of our personality escapes some sort of conditioning.
My internship is at the Richland County Public Defender’s Office and I work directly with two juvenile defense attorneys. My office is at the Richland County Judicial Center. This position is very new and I am the second person to have this internship at USC, so defining my position is very complex. I do not have an on-site social work supervisor to turn to when I have questions, so, I have to figure out a lot of things on my own. Being that I work directly with the attorneys, a lot of things I see on the daily are on the legal side and not the social worker side per se. However, the attorneys involve me in the entire process when working with each client to provide a social work perspective to better help the clients and increase the quality of their services.
The Starfish Family Services internship is a perfect fit for me. Their mission “Strengthening families to create brighter futures for children” compliments my belief that all kids should be given as much support, resources and love as possible in order for them to reach their highest potential. Working for Starfish Family Services would allow me to apply the skills I have learned at Wayne State University into real world applications, while being a part of something that supports the community around me. As a parent of two children, ages 3 and under, it’s a great opportunity for me to showcase to them the importance of giving back and hopefully become a role model to them when they’re
The benefits of behavioral therapy is used accordingly to each diverse population. This approach includes the client’s thoughts on learning skills, principles, and strategies, accompanied by continuing good behavior on daily living. Most clients like this approach because it provides them with a guide for behavior change along with successful results. It has a concrete method for dealing with problems of living. This behavior therapy is alarmed about the environment the client associate with on a daily basis because it affects the client’s social and cultural
The deterministic view has its strengths and weaknesses and some of the popular explanations of human behavior that exemplify the determinist view are human nature, the environment, psychological forces and social dynamics. The human nature is based on the view that our actions are a direct consequence from our inborn nature and whether we do good or evil in life is beyond our control and we cannot alter our fundamental character. The environment explains that behaviors are direct products of the
“What gets in our way is history and culture and religion and economic conditions. It is part of the hypnosis of our social conditioning” (Chopra). Chopra says that because of where and how a person grows up, it affects them and shapes who they eventually become. This is similar to the one of main plot ideas of the novel Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley. In this novel, the people are conditioned from birth to think the same general ideas about who they are and how they should act. In the real world, people are shaped by their environment, and those who are there to guide them. However, the people in Brave New World are conditioned by others before birth and on. The people must listen to hypnopaedic messages
The agency where I am completing my internship is called Center for Family Services. This organization provides a wide range of services. I am working in their Family First program. This program is a substance abuse program just for mothers who must attend drug court or have an open case with the Division of Child Protection and Permanency. These women are ordered to complete a substance abuse program. This program serves a diverse cultural and ethnic population who may have experienced trauma in their life. Many times, trauma and post traumatic stress can lead to substance abuse.
Theoretical orientations are different views of how human behavior is understood by clinicians, and acts as a roadmap to help them with understanding clients, their problems, and developing solutions. Choosing one from many different options is not a simple process, and it is important to select one in a coherent manner. As a student I have acquired knowledge of different theoretical orientations and in every class I’ve been asked what my theoretical orientation is. I have not been able to provide a specific answer, and although I have not selected a specific theoretical orientation to work with, I do find some theoretical orientations appealing and drawn to. I believe that my unique personality and how I conceptualize human behavior are two
Individuals in our society today are constantly adhering to some cultural norm, be it to impress those around them or as a way to elicit a sense of belonging. However, individuals rarely realize that the cause of their behavior is not entirely innate; rather it is also the consequence of numerous, ongoing conditioning by parents, friends, family, cultural groups, and schools. Throughout this paper, I will be highlighting the effects conditioning has on us and how that affects the way we lead our lives.
Individual’s actions affect the thought process of their actions and the way they feel emotionally and physically based on their cognition about certain situations. This may result in individuals developing negative thoughts, going on shopping sprees or eating. Meanwhile, through the classical conditioning approach, it targets conditioned/ unconditioned stimulus, operant conditioning, conditioned/ unconditioned responses, and related terms. These approaches give the client ways to accept and introduce how to manage new cognition and behaviors on their own. Instead of an individual assuming or having an uncomfortable feeling, these approaches demonstrate building the relationship, clinical assessment, focusing on problem areas and setting goals, choosing techniques and working on goals, assessment of goal completion, and closure and follow-ups for the
Within the realm of behavior modification the techniques of shaping, chaining, prompting and fading, and behavioral skills training procedures are employed to establish new and desired behaviors for a variety of different people for various reasons. Deciding which technique to utilize is dependent on such variables as context, situation, target goal behavior, intellectual ability or disability, and individual skill level. Miltenberger (2016) discusses each of the above mentioned techniques in chapters 9 – 12. He delivers clear definitions for each technique and associated key terms as well as providing ample scenarios and areas where they may be seen and used.
There is also a conditioning wherein individuals are trained from the time of conception. Individuals are conditioned to think and act according to what the government wants them to do.
In the environment, determinism is defined by their environment and are conditioned to be the people they are. With this explanation, it depends on the life experiences an individual encounter that affects their behaviors. With the psychological development explanation, people are governed by psychological forces, many of them unconscious, that cause them to think, feel, and act in certain ways. With this explanation, the actions that humans perform are the result of psychological impulses that have been formed by people’s earliest relationships and experiences. With the social dynamics explanation, people are social creatures and are influenced by the people around them.
In this essay , we will briefly outline different theoretical concepts of orientations in marketing followed by an attempt to compare and contrast the marketing orientations of two of the biggest companies in the world, namely Apple Inc., the number one most valuable brand in the world , valued at over $246 billion (BrandZ, 2015) and Foxconn Technology Group, a contract technology company producing the iPad and the iPhone for Apple (Wikipedia, 2015).
