There are many factors in an organisation that may lead to deviant workplace behaviour and such behaviour is not wanted, managers must generate strategies to reduce this behaviour within their organisations. The term, deviant workplace behaviour, is defined as behaviour, that is intentional, that violates important organisational models and while this is happening, it may be threatening the wellbeing of the organisation or its members (Robbins, Judge, Millett, & Boyle, 2014, p. 21). A manager’s best interest is the organisation and its members, they have the role of controlling what happens within the organisation, ensuring that everything is being accomplished as planned and that all deviations are corrected (Carter, & Fayol, 1986). Job satisfaction can lead to workplace deviance quite easily, despite this, managers can work towards resolving any issues that will cause dissatisfaction in the workplace. Other individual demographics can affect, not only job satisfaction but behaviour in a workplace. In relation to workplace deviance, individual factors play a part in what leads to this behaviour. The demographics of an individual will have effects when it comes to the way a person behaves. Employees who are rather young and are new to their job, and have low-paying positions are more likely to engage in acts of deviance. (Tang, Chen, 2007, p.5) Problems can easily arise from someone not putting one hundred percent into their work leading to lower economic costs. Research shows that there are gender differences in ethical decision-making. Women tend to be more ethical than males meaning this lowers the likeliness that they will engage in deviant behaviour. It is argued that men have more interest in competitive success rather than caring about others, progressing to them being more subjective to unethical and deviant behaviour to achieve goals.
