There Shouldn T Be Any Restrictions On Free Speech

This year’s election alone has brought about many emotions and deep rooted feelings that have not come out in years. Hate speech and actions carried out because of hate speech has cause a deep division in American culture. Groups like “Black Lives Matter”, “All Lives Matter”, and “Alt-Right” are all under fire for things that have been said or done in the names of these groups. There has been terrorist attacks in the names of religious groups whom believe that a newspaper or group has insulted their religion, beliefs, and gods. Not to mention our own President Elect of the United States, Donald Trump, has been accused of fueling much of the hate speech we see today. This begs the question, should freedom of speech have any restrictions or be limited in any way, or is that unconstitutional? To look at this we must first identify what “Freedom of Speech” is as defined in the constitution and how it relates to current issues in the world and in America, then I will talk about some situations where regulation is already put in place in America, lastly we will look at some situations where I believe freedom of speech could use some clarification or restriction.

Freedom of speech is one of our rights listed in the first amendment, but there should be a limit on what we can and cannot say. Because of the internet, there's a better chance of people getting bullied. People can hide behind a computer screen and say what the want to others without the person knowing who they are. Schools should care about this because this can put students in harm's way. I feel that school should be able to put a limit on students online speech. Three main reasons why there should be a limit on students online speech is boys and girls get bullied everyday over the internet, it causes disturbances in school, and it puts more stress of the schools because they have to deal with it according to law.

How much we value the right of free speech is put to its severest test when the speaker is someone we disagree with most. Speech that deeply offends our morality or is hostile to our way of life warrants the same constitutional protection as other speech because the right of free speech is indivisible. The First Amendment does not only give the individuals the rights to free speech, but also gives the companies the protection to advertise their products. However, there are regulations in advertisements, such as that the information on the advertisements cannot be misguiding nor false. If companies are restricted on the way they use to advertise, individuals may not be as free as they think because they are regulated on what they want to say. For instance, tobacco companies are highly regulated in advertisements. The government required tobacco companies to inform the consumers that tobacco can cause bad health problems. This can support the argument that we are not as we as we believe we are because we need to follow the directions of the government. The government limited the people that tobacco companies can target. However, tobacco companies are indirectly targeting the youth because the style of their advertisements are most attractive to teenagers. This is an issue that is cause by the First Amendment because sellers have the rights of free speech. They may be limited to the ways they advertise, but they always find ways to sell their products to a wider group.

Citizens of the United States shall have the right to free speech. Persons shall be permitted to express their opinions freely in any way whether that be orally, written, recorded, displayed on websites, or by using symbols, signs or images.

Freedom of speech is protected by the United States Constitution under the First Amendment. Americans have the right to voice their opinions and ideas without fear of retribution or suppression from the government. Commercial speech is speech, usually in the form of a commercial or advertisement, where a company is trying to influence a person to buy a product or service. Commercial speech has less protection than normal speech.

In the first amendment it clearly states that we have the right to say anything we feel. We Americans have what is called “freedom of speech”. We can express this right in many ways: like protesting against something we do not believe in, saying what we want when we feel it or posting what we want to online. People have just recently become too emotional. They get their feelings hurt too easily and find a way to take offense to every little thing we say that they don’t like. Unlike most I do not think we should have a limit on our speech.

In America we have freedom of speech we have the right to speak our minds and opinions. The First amendment states “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” Therefore, the question is should their be a speech restriction by law? or Should their be no restrictions? I feel there shouldn't be speech restrictions by law, In America there are restrictions on speech that are not protected by the government restrictions. The person who is taking it away is the president Donald Trump, he wants to take away freedom of speech because he doesn’t like many people from other countries that means that he is racist. People should have the right to talk about violence or illegal acts. The supreme court ruling also says that freedom of speech ends when the words are “likely to incite or produce such action.” How does the government know when someone is “likely” to commit the crime that they are talking about? That would be giving a lot of power to a government that has abused power and the trust of its people in the past. The debate about having complete freedom of speech, or having restrictions on freedom of speech can be complicated. As an American we are allowed to express and say what we feel and believe in. People should not have any restrictions on freedom of speech, but people should respect others, and not act or say harmful things about other population or person. People do not need to get offensive with anyone it is all about how you say things that can make a difference. Racism has been around for years, working together as a society we can end it if we all put effort into it and try to understand why and what makes others different than us, we might learn something new we can create a better society and end all the hatred in our world.

Freedom of speech should have some limitations. The American people should have the right to say whatever they want, but to an extent. Whether it is on signs or verbally some things should not be expressed. The United States is well known for being “the home of the free,” but some people take their freedom a bit too far. People can burn flags, protest at military funerals, even use the “n” word and watching pornography in libraries.
