There were thousands of dead bodies lying cold and lifeless on the ground. This wasn’t how war was supposed to be. All of the teachers had told their students what being in the military was like, and this was not anything like they had described. The teachers had told them that if they were real men, they would honor their country by joining the military. Some men would think “How is it honoring my country, if I know that I will die?” Soon men would start to come back and tell classes what a real war is like. How you were always afraid of what might happen next. Young men in these classrooms would call those returning soldiers cowards. Those men had spent their whole lives believing that militarism was the right thing for them to do. So …show more content…
Later that day the car driver made a wrong turn. Luckily for Princip, he was on the same street. He was planning out his next move as he looked up and saw Archduke Ferdinand. As he pulled out his gun, the driver tried to reverse but the gears got stuck. Princip was locked onto his target. He shot multiple times. One bullet hit Ferdinand's wife in the stomach, killing the baby and herself. Another bullet hit the Archduke and killed him as well. Princip was arrested by the Serbian military. Austria-Hungary issued a formal diplomatic representation of their view, which was known as the July Ultimatum. This was used as pretext for Austria-Hungary's invasion of Serbia. This then led to WW1. Another cause of WW1 was the rise in Nationalism. Nationalism was a feeling that people had of being loyal to and proud of their country. It is the pride in ones country. For example, in Germany people wanted to be a real force in the world. People started to believe in their countries. When belief overcame a person they would often go to other countries and kill men (like Archduke Ferdinand was killed by Gavrilo Princip). When men would perform these actions, countries would get upset/mad and want revenge. Most countries in Europe had allies so if you made one country mad, you weren't just going to go to war with one country/military. There was a lot of murdering going around at the time of WW1, so that meant that a vast majority of the countries in Europe were
World War I was a tragic episode in European history. As with most wars, there were some causes that led to this event. A few of these causes were militarism, alliances, and imperialism. The first spark of the war was on June 28, 1914 when the Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife were assassinated by a Serbian nationalist group called the Black Hand. The Austrian leaders demanded an apology from Serbia, they got upset and Russia said they would help Serbia. With no apology and the threat of Russia, on June 28 Austria-Hungary declared war on them; Russia in return declared war on Austria-Hungary. Germany declared war on Russia, France on both Germany and Austria-Hungary. Finally Britain had joined France and Russia, then all of Europe was at war.
The first cause of World War One was due to militarism. World War One was the result of too much military power. Britain had a stronger military power (Royal Navy) because it had the highest per capita expenditures. The desire for military power was high because everyone was building their armies up to
World War I was the result of leaders' aggression towards other countries which was supported by the rising nationalism of the European nations. Economic and imperial competition and fear of war prompted military alliances and an arms race, which further escalated the tension contributing to the outbreak of war. One cause of the World War was militarism, which is a policy in which military preparedness is of primary significance to a situation. Another cause of the World War was nationalism. Nationalism is the pride and devotion form one towards his/her country. It played a great part in the causes of World War 1 because citizens wanted to stand up for their country, and fight for them. The third
During world war one there were many things the came to the start of it. Countries allied together, leaders were blamed for pushing their people to war. Armies went to action starting the wars and everyone blamed each other for it.The way people thought that war was good at the time. All these causes that could have lead to it. Many can argue that nationalism was the cause or alliances etc. However, Militarism was the underlying cause in World War 1.
One underlying cause of World War 1 was the alliance systems. There were two major alliances. The triple entente and the triple alliance (Document A). The triple entente consisted of Russia, United Kingdom, and France. The triple alliance consisted of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and italy. Alliances were quick to support their allies (Document B). Each country had a different point of view of who started the war. So this created a chain reaction (Document B). Those are a few ways alliance systems caused World War 1.
The Austro-Hungarian Ultimatum to Serbia was one of the examples of imperialism during WW1. On July 23 1914, Serbian nationalist Gavrilo Princip assassinated archduke Franz Ferdinand, who was to be the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne. Austro-Hungary, realizing they were stronger than Serbia, issued an ultimatum with ridiculous demands, along with statements such as “The Royal Serbian Government [is]… to suppress any publication which incites to hatred and contempt of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy and the general tendency of which is directed against its territorial
World war 1 brought catastrophe to countries around the world. Leading to the economic depression, the rise of authoritarian leaders, problems with Germany due to the Versailles treaty, and many other outcomes that in fact eventually led to WW2. As you may or may not know WW1 was the 1st war that included countries from all around the world. It was supposed to be the “war to end all wars”. False. later in time came WW2 and many other small wars throughout history. The real question is what were the reasons why world war 1 flourished? 3 main reasons include nationalism, imperialism and militarism. All these are fundamental causes of WW1.
The three most important underlying cause of World War 1 are militarism, imperialism, and alliance. One of the most important underlying cause of WW1 is militarism. Countries would invest in their army and navy to defend themselves and to be prepared to attack during war. European countries spent millions on their armaments.
World war 1 has been a major impact on the world. It was a war in which the casualty was very high for some European countries. New technology was used throughout the war by each of the European countries. But what was the cause of the war? I believe that the causes of World War 1 were the alliance system militarism and imperialism.
Europeans struggled to cooperate to govern these two weak, vulnerable countries. This created tension throughout Europe. World War one was pushed by the desire for greater empires and increasing competition. Imperialism is one of the prime causes that lead to World War one.
There were multiple causes of world war 1. During the 20th-century Europe was enjoying a time of peace and prosperity. Europe was clueless at the fact that there were several forces working on grasping Europe into the "Great War". Those forces worked with the intention resulting in Europe giving in.
In the period just before the war started there was a “false sense of security”(3) because the sort of stability in nations Napoleon had created was gone so new nations were formed. The thinking was that while there were a few minor wars, any threat of a big war was non existent. Therefore throughout WW1 countries who were apart of a relatively newly created empire and did not necessarily want to be apart of that empire got the idea that they could become their own nations. The sense of nationalism grew greatly in these areas only adding to conflict contributing to the
World War One was started by many things that included, Nationalism, Imperialism, and Militarism. These causes were smaller factors that lead up to the immediate cause of the war which was the assassination of Arch-Duke Franz Ferdinand, this event is what sent the world into chaos. Nationalism played a large role in the lead up to world war one. The Slavic people in Bosnia and Herzegovina didn’t want to be part of Austria-Hungary, they wished to become part of Serbia. Nationalism causes citizens to be over confident and give them the sensation that their country is the only fair and righteous.
Before World War 1 began there were many conflicts between many countries, these conflicts are what eventually led to the war. Nationalism lead to World War 1 for reasons people believed they needed to fight for their country, many people who weren’t fighting wanted to support their soldiers, and many soldiers felt as if they couldn’t back out of the war. Militarism was a cause because each country was building up their weapons and ammunition, as well as building up their armies. Finally Kaiser Wilhelm II was a cause because he had a very strong hate towards Britain, he was a very aggressive leader and he wanted Germany to be the number one country. Nationalism, militarism and Kaiser Wilhelm II were the three main causes of World War 1.
There were three very important causes of World War One; Nationalism, Militarism, and Imperialism ( Davidson, Castillo, Stoff, page 570). For years, these three factor has brought tension to European nations. Then, in June of 1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir t the throne of
