People often relate procrastination to lazy people, adamantly believing that it leads to inevitable failure. With Countless of articles , books & guides on how to get over procrastination , The Author John Rampton in his article “Procrastination or Contemplation?” chose to spark off a debate by issuing his ideas on how procrastination can actually be fruitful. Rampton states the bright side of procrastination and how it can lead to success rather than the common negative myths about this issue. As much as I was convinced by Mr.Rampton’s ideas, I still refuse to believe in them. Mr. Rampton, you give me no guarantees.
In this article John Rampton listed some of the positive aspects of procrastination, although some of them were both logical and relatable but the non-credibility of the sources weakened them & made them less convincible. What made his article engaging is that the ideas he introduced were relatable to the majority. As a procrastinator myself , i found his definition of Procrastination quite interesting where he said “procrastination is using fear as a motivator” , its actually true that we finish some tasks on time only out of fear. Besides, the reasons we delay doing a certain task is usually because it’s either a boring task or a stressful one , which is what the author stated to let readers

Firstly he mentioned that “some scientists have argued….”, Rampton didn’t mention the name of the scientists or from where he got this information . Then he wrote a quote for unknown “Perry”, we don’t know who Perry is or what makes her words credible. Neither her profession nor her identity was mentioned. In the last place, Rampton mentioned scientific information without a source, claiming that biology is one of the reasons we procrastinate, which is the reason I’m mistrusting Rampton on every other information mentioned in the
Procrastination is a trait that “hides” in many of us. It is very easy to acquire but difficult to shake. Though it is not good to have, I have learned that with hard work you can overcome this ailment. Procrastination is never a good trait. It always seem to be something I couldn’t avoid; however this time I think it made my end product even better.
To procrastinate is to put off doing something out of casual carelessness or common laziness. It often needlessly postpones or delays events or objectives in your life which can effect others. Procrastination is almost like a drug in your life, because once you start doing it a little bit, it slowly adds up to a dependency that you will find to be common habit. Although this is what we all perceive procrastination to be bad, there are some benefits to it. It can have beneficial impact on how you take pressure, or how well you can act when time is limited.
Attention Getter: A famous author by the name of Wayne Dyer once said, “Procrastination is one of the most common and deadliest of diseases and its toll on success and happiness is incredibly heavy.”(1) In todays society it seems as if procrastination has become a normal and acceptable thing to do. It is often joked about amongst schoolmates and co-workers around the world. Nothing seems to get done until it absolutely needs to get done, then everyone runs around getting things done quickly and often times inaccurately. The trouble with this mentality however is that some things will never get done because something will come up tomorrow or the next day and what you are putting off now gets pushed even further back. Today I will persuade you to stop this habit from continuing. I will be explaining the problems we face when dealing with procrastination as well as how to deal with it and actions you can take to prevent it in the future.
that I am all three. Procrastination is basically waiting until the last minute to do something. Prioritizing is to arrange or deal with things in the order of importance. Last but not least, slacking is lacking in diligence, care, or concern. Out of all three words, prioritizing sounds the best. Many kids at school like to procrastinate, mostly with tests, I am one of them. This is why we need to form more study habits that will help us excel as we enter higher grade levels.
I am procrastinating on getting my driving license. A lot has gotten in my way so I couldn’t even practice driving such as car issues and not having time to because of being a full time student and working four days a week. Another thing I am procrastinating at is saving up money for my future car and an apartment and bills in general. It is difficult saving up when I still have the expense of my mother’s funeral over my head. It is also difficult saving for my future when I have to help my father out with money.
Procrastination will teach you to work faster, smarter, and more efficiently on the task you are faced with. Now I’m not saying to procrastinate so much that you cannot finish your work, all I'm saying is that you need a break. In fact before this paragraph was written I myself procrastinated a little. I was fresh out of ideas on what else to type. But those few beautiful moments of procrastination
Procrastination helps people do things better than if they did it right when they are told. It puts rest on the mind so that it doesn’t stress. Procrastination is not a thing for everybody it’s something that could be hard to do at times because you are taking a risk. If your mother tells you to do something and you procrastinate your taking
I often use my calendar to put off important tasks and goals, scheduling them as far in advance as possible. To keep this from happening, I will describe the importance of my tasks in my calendar; reminding myself of the impact and consequences.
Another factor that causes procrastination is fear. Fear is a very powerful emotion. Whenever someone is faced with a difficult task, they can become overran by the fear of not being able to complete it. People who succumb to this are setting themselves up for failure. Whenever someone feels as if they are going to fail, they tend to postpone the task for as long as possible. This means that they often try to avoid the task all together until completion is absolutely necessary. In doing so, the number of tasks that need to be done increases. However, the time required to complete them does not.
In Why Wait, Jaffe discusses a number of issues, but mostly focuses on the effects of procrastination on both the work involved and the person doing the procrastinating and possible means of handling or dealing with chronic procrastination. According to some of the earliest studies into the topic, in 1997, procrastination produced a short-term improvement in the quality of one’s work, but a long term loss (Tice, D. M., & Baumeister, R. F. 1997, 454-458). Other studies showed that procrastinators suffered prolonged feelings of guilt and stress over the fact that they were procrastinating, but they did not change their behavior. This, the article says, implies that procrastination is, at its heart, a lack of ability to regulate
The questionnaire was posted online for psyc121 students of Victoria University of Wellington. “Please read each statement, and select the option that best describes how much you agree or disagree with each one” was the instruction given to the participants when completing a Pure Procrastination Scale (PPS) which was developed by Steel (2010). It had 12 items and on a one to five scale where one is strongly disagree and 5 is strongly agree. A statement “I generally delay before starting on work I have to do”. Higher scores meant higher levels of procrastination.
In his essay “Why We Procrastinate,” Estroff Marano states that procrastination damages oneself and hinders one’s progress. Moreover, he feels, as a nation, we fail to recognize the grievousness of this bad habit, and the consequences that occur with this learned behavior. According to the author alcohol consumption, deception, and lack of engagement are a few of the destructive and costly outcomes. Marano concludes that with therapy, procrastinators can replace their harmful habits with healthier ones. I agree with Marano that chronic procrastinators have undesirable patterns of behavior that prevents them from being successful and impedes them from having healthy relationships. Three of the most common reasons why people procrastinate
As terribly exciting as that may sound this constant wave of slow-mo into overdrive is taxing and, as one might expect, not conducive to a worker with top quality output. Even though its common knowledge that procrastinating has never been the best route to take somehow as we go through life it is in fact the path most travelled. So, if it’s so bad for us why do we continue to do it? How does our procrastination affect us? How does it affect others? Most importantly how do we fix this seemingly harmless trend that catapults us into impossible messes and tangled situations?
This is confirmed by the observation by (Ferrari and Beck, 1998) that over 70% of college students engaged in frequent academic procrastination, most commonly with writing term papers. Procrastination is probably the single most common time management problem (Learning Common Fastfacts Series, 2004). One basic thing about procrastination is that everyone procrastinates to some extent. However, some reasons can be put forward why university students rank highly among those mostly vulnerable to procrastination (Learning Commons Fastfacts Series, 2004). The reasons according to this group are: (i) there is always a tremendous amount of work to do. Regardless of how much time the students spend studying, it can seem impossible to get finished; (ii) for most students, only a few hours each day are spent in class and labs. The majority of time is unstructured, and students are responsible for deciding what to do and when to do it; and (iii) in the university environment, particularly in residence, there is usually something more enjoyable to do than studying. Many activities compete for a limited number of hours in a week, and studying is often pushed to the bottom of the list. It also recognized that many mathematics students refer to the subjects as being difficult. And the (Learning Commons Fastfacts Series, 2004) have already asserts that procrastination often results
Similar most other traits and personalities, laziness is blamed on abnormalities of the physical structures and happenings within the brain according to the biological perspective of psychology. Charles Darwin, an early biological psychologist, would provide one type of analysis using the theory of natural selection, where characteristics that increase the likelihood of survival will be maintained in a species. This theory eventually
