I will attempt to write a persuasive research paper about the benefits of properly placing merchandise in a retail store. Below are three research questions that, I believe, will help me to develop a strong thesis statement.
1. Are customers more likely to purchase merchandise that is positioned on the end caps of a retail store?
2. Does merchandise sell better when grouped together with like items?
3. Will a product sell faster if located in multiple areas throughout a retail store?
Here is my thesis statement: Merchandise should be placed in proper locations of a retail store to encourage sales.
After reviewing “Writing a Thesis Statement”, I have come to the conclusion that my argument is persuasive. I believe this is so because my thesis
For this project, I chose Target’s department store because, one, I am an employee there and most importantly I felt that it showed different types of people in multiple ways through its products. For my first observation my goal was to examine how the store was arranged, the products that

Everyday thousands of retail stores throughout the United States open up their stores in the morning for the sole purpose of attracting customers and selling them merchandise. For this assignment I decided to do a store analysis of the retail giant Wal-Mart. To begin with I will evaluate the store layout and design. Next I will explain the visual merchandising techniques used that Wal-Mart uses. Finally I will discuss the problems and recommendations that I have for Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart has continually been a leader in the retail industry, and it all starts with the layout of the store.

Before I report my results, I must explain how I conducted my observation, or my research methods. To say that I only walked a lap around the Walmart store and left would be far from the truth. I dressed like an average shopper even making sure to grab a buggy. I started my observation in the grocery department, making the transition to the electronics,
Sephora is a retail chain of perfume and cosmetics stores founded in 1969 by Dominique Mandonnaud. It first started as a small perfumery in Limoges, France, called Shop 8 and was revolutionary at that time due to its concept of 'assisted self-service '. The store had an open-sell setting where customers could try the products before they bought them and where the organisation of the products was by type, not by brand as in every other store.
On 2nd of July, 1992, the Canadian government imposed a moratorium on the Northern cod fishery along the country's east coast.
4) Location- Decisions about where to locate a store are critical to any retailer’s success. Location decisions are particularly important because of their high cost, long-term commitment and impact on customer patronage. Choosing a particular location type involves evaluating a series of trade-offs. These trade-offs generally include the occupancy cost of location, the pedestrian and vehicle customer traffic associated with the location, the restrictions placed on the store operations by the property managers, and the convince of the location for customers.
STRATEGIC LOCATION: When it comes to retail industry the selection of location plays a very important role. Ex. Initially when Wal-Mart was set up by Sam Walton they mainly got success due to their location strategy. They had set up stores i.e. discount centres in rural and small town areas; other reason was strategic placement of distribution centres.
When examining competitive advantage, it is also important to consider the market and take into account the existing competition against larger firms.

It’s all in the display. When an item, such as a watch or a scarf, is displayed in a glass case, it implies luxury. An item in a glass case with a lot of space around it implies real luxury.
Retailer spend excessive investment into the storefront surroundings developed by specialized designers (Yildirim et al, 2007). They are an essential part of a shopper’s surrounding during a female shopping experience and therefore have an impact on buying behavior in retail framework. There are two main principles that window displays should serve: it must identify the store image and products, and to motivate customers to have positive shopping attitudes. Apart from window displays, promotional signage of merchandise may encourage consumers to get into the store. This study will analyze customer’s behavior among promotional signage.
