My reasons for returning to school may seem a bit selfish but let me explain. I have been an EMT and Paramedic for the past 28 years. The areas for advancement in this field are far and few between. Although I have over 10 years of experience as a supervisor,
I decided to go back to school for many reasons. First of all, it's always been a personal goal of mine to get a bachelor's degree. Over the years, I have taken courses to get close to that goal but I haven't been successful with completing it yet due to life experiences. Another reason I have decided to return to school is because I realize it's going to help with my career. I know getting a degree won't necessarily guarantee a promotion or raise but I believe it will provide more opportunities along the way. My ultimate goal for obtaining this degree is to use it towards getting a Master's degree.
Returning back to school was a very natural decision for me. It seemed to be the next logical step in my personal and career goals. My ultimate goal is to be happy and healthy and be a good provider and role model. With that set aside for now, my

An experience in my life that influences my goals to go back to school is when I went to jail for the first time. Going to jail is an experience that changed my life forever, because it made me think of all the wrong things I was doing with my
He joined the armed forces when he was eighteen. After he left the army he met back up with my mom and they soon dated again. He married my mother Kelly Crooks on July 31st, 1993. They then had me on August 6th, 1999. Subsequently, they had my sister on November 12th, 2004. Unfortunately my dad suffered a fall causing a disk and a half to break. This was due to strains he had suffered in his back over the years. The doctors told him he would never walk again, in other words that he would be confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life. However, he proved them wrong as he after six months was able to use crutches. Then after a year of physical therapy and sheer determination he moved from crutches to a cane and braces on his legs. Nowadays despite having partial paralysis in his legs he can walk with little problem and he only uses his cane to balance himself as he walks long distances. When I look at my dad I see a man that has overcame his unfortunate circumstances in his life and has excelled into someone greater. He is someone who I look at and I admire as he shows what hard work and a good drive lead to with the right circumstances.

Single parents have tougher challenges than other students. It is not easy trying to raise babies while working a full-time job and go to school. I had no support and people told me I was insane for trying to finish college. It caused me to doubt myself and believe it
The journey that has taken place over this past term has served to enlighten me at a number of different levels. I feel that I am reflective of the many adult students who have added to the list of everything else they have to do on a daily basis the commitment to further my education. This has not been an easy path for me and often finds both my family and me making sacrifices. The hope is that I will better myself and improve my career plans. I also feel the decision to return to school serves as a good example for my children. However, there have been costs that have been paid for this ambition. At the forefront has been both my mental and physical health. For a long time, dinner happened late into the evening and exercise consisted of lifting
What motivates me most to pursue a college degree is opening new doors for career options and inspiring my daughter through my own actions to pursue lifelong learning. I have waited until this point in my life to take this first step for many reasons. I feel that I had a lot of fear of failure that kept me from pursuing this higher learning. I am in the right place mentally at this stage in my life and feel like I can fully invest in this experience and make it truly a success and representation of what I can do. I am also highly motivated by the fact that my career is truly stalled because I am not competition for someone that has equal experience and a degree. I plan to conquer that competition through this process.
