What should a third grader know how to do? What abilities and problem solving skills can third grader do? The national standards give us a nice template of what we should be teaching a third grader and what they should be able to accomplish by the end of their third-grade year, but the standards lack the ability to show me what it would look like in the classroom. When sorting out the samples, I was hesitant about putting the samples into categories, I just don’t think in those ways. I take a very holistic approach (look at the whole child) when it comes to evaluating my students. I take in account who my student is and what they have accomplish within a certain amount of time. I had no background knowledge of the kids I was ask to evaluate. So, the evaluation I give is …show more content…
It looks like one student wrote the rhyming word for the given word instead of stating the analogy. Most students picked “close” which was the correct answer. One student used a different word such as “shut”. This tells me that this student how a higher understanding of word choice and vocabulary. The class samples seem to be typical array of levels for a third-grade class room. Majority of students completed the worksheets within the Met and Exceeds level. I only saw maybe four or five that may need additional support (see needs support sample provided in this report). It seems like many students had difficulty with the placement of the comma which should be reinforce in future lessons. As I was looking at the class work samples I could see that most students understood the rules of capitalizing, ending punctuation, adjectives, and analogies. I came to this assumption because this answers were correct on most of the samples (Note: This is only assumption since I could not determine if these samples were collected before or after the class corrected it
According to Table 1.2, the following categories fell within close range to the mean: number sense, attends to print, basic reading, articulation, communication (receptive), matching, pre-writing, colors, and shapes. It is evident through this data analysis that most students are at the emerging stage of ability levels, implicating that they require some level of prompting to ensure they produce a correct response. It is concluded that students require continued instruction with addition, reading, and working independently are skills that require continued instruction. Division, multiplication, graphing, and telling time were areas that all students found to be the most challenging, thus these findings confirmed my original assumptions,
I will walk around the classroom taking notes about each students’ progress, while they work independently and during guided practice. On students desk there will also be colored cards to explain where each student believes they are. A green card will explain that the student understands it, a yellow card means they understand some of it, and red means they do not understand how to complete the work. Data will be kept on a chart with every students’ name. This assessment will show me where additional accommodations may need to be made; therefore, meeting the needs of students with exceptionalities. If I notice a student not being able to understand how to solve the problems, accommodations can be set to help students understand what they are working
Katie was given the Brigance Sentence-Writing Grade-Placement Test on 4/13/2016 which measures the highest grade level a student can construct sentences accurately in content and mechanics with given grade level vocabulary. Katie received no prompting to review her work other than to ask her if she was done so her work could be checked to determine if she could continue to the next sample. Based on her overall performance, Katie was able to compose accurate sentences up to a 6th grade level. Katie correctly capitalized the beginning of every sentence and applied the correct ending punctuation. In all of her samples, she missed one comma which was after the dependent clause in a complex sentence. None of her errors affected the meaning of her
1. The Jaws poster is particularly effective due to its bold primary colors of blue and red. The red text jumps out through contrast, catching the viewer’s interest. In addition, isolation, convergence, and location causes the eye to move around the poster.
To initiate the grade word list portion of the reading inventory, Jerry Johns, Basic Reading Inventory, form A was utilized. Since Lauren is in fourth grade, the second grade list was identified as the starting point for her assessment. Impacted by her avoidance of reading, her frustration level was identified at the fifth grade level.
For 3 yrs. old children there are a few developmental milestones that enhances their ability to perform certain task. These include hoping for a few seconds, kicking a ball and throwing it overhand, understanding the concepts of “same” and “different” and being able to
Obviously, I think this attitude is not only correct, but essential, though I'm not above some sort of self reflection. So if you're just starting off in writing and a little frustrated with how seriously people take your comma placement, think about this: we're the ones that have had some measure of success. We've had books published and gotten jobs in the field. That's not to say we're all bestsellers or know every single thing about writing, but rather that this deep caring for refinement on a surface level is an attitude shared by those who have made it to the higher levels in the discipline.
I have attached a copy of my high school transcript with the courses and grades I have received throughout my last two years at Anacortes High School. This semester, I am taking ASB Leadership, Strength and Conditioning, Drama 3, Pre-Calc, AP Environmental Science, AP Literature and Composition, and Teacher's Aide for Mr. Thompson. My favorite classes I have taken at AHS are Honors World Religions and ASB Leadership. Honors World Religions is one of my favorite classes because it challenges you to think differently than any other class does. It not only talks about religious history, but also current world issues that involve religion. This class is said to be one of the hardest classes at AHS, but it is also the most interesting class I have
The documentary, Young Kids, Hard Time shows the aftermath of what life is like for juveniles who are convicted with adult sentences. In the film the viewers met four young kids who were all tried as adults. One child in the film was as young as twelve years old, and was set to serve twenty-five years in prison. The age of this child brings up a lot of concerns when discussing how juveniles are treated in our justice system. Much like the discussions had in class, this documentary touches on how sentencing this young boy to spend the majority of his adult life in prison is an appropriate solution to service justice. Crimes cannot go unpunished, no matter what the age is of the offender is, but is sentencing a criminal to a life in prison the correct way of giving punishment? This is one of many questions that the film and this course seek to answer. Something the film does not go into is the theories in which scientists try to explain delinquency. Two theories that have both reasonable and unreasonable explanations to delinquency are structural functionalism and subcultural theory.
According to employers interviewed by the NCW, students writing skills are possibly less effective now than they were 15 to 20 years ago. This drives me to conclude that the context based approach alone is not an effective way to teach grammar and punctuation. Perhaps the modified sentence combining approach as suggested by Quible & Griffin (p.34) will improve students writing skills. For an approach to be effective, it must address teaching grammar in two folds. Firstly, the rules of punctuation and instruction on grammar must be introduced. Once the student has that basic understanding, an approach such as in-context writing, sentence combining, glossing or error labeling can be presented to help students learn to eliminate sentence level errors. It is absolutely imperative for educators to adopt a new direction in order to resolve the current dilemma Employers are facing.
In my assessment these students will be evaluated consistently my me and the instructors at Hillcrest elementary school. The students will be evaluated on how to continue his/her next steps within the school. Input will be given to the student at the school for data so they can learn more by adapting to their own personal experiences. I will first do a walk-thru of the classroom in starting my assessment. I will visually be able to check on my student’s progress and really understand the students. Next I will use a checklist to compare and see if the student is progressing or not. Criticism feedback won’t be seen as a problem but would be seen as a guide to understanding and achievement inside of the classroom. Lastly and most important I will give out a summative assessment to assess the knowledge of problem solving skills. The specific end goal is to persuade students to become long lasting learners inside and
In the article “Applying Behavioral Theory to an Innovative School-Based Program for Preventing Underage Drinking and Impaired Driving,” it applies both the Transtheoretical Model (TTM) and the Social Cognitive Theory (SCT). The behavior that is being studied is the combination of drinking alcohol and driving among teenagers. The authors collaborated with Shattered Dreams, a preventative program that instills teenagers with the potential negative consequences of underage drinking and driving. The purpose of the collaboration is to formulate evaluation criteria, and help make the program more effective by applying behavioral theories and models.
I would like to do my Researched Argument Essay on the topic of vaccinations for dogs, more specifically, the importance of leptospirosis vaccination, what are the symptoms of a dog that had been affected by this disease, and how relevant is lepto vaccine to human. I found this topic extremely interesting due to the increasing number of lepto patients regardless if it is an animal or a human. Leptospirosis is a very dangerous disease that is often overlook. I want to bring awareness on how important it is to keep up with your pets vaccination and the possibility of what could happen if we overlook the importance of vaccinations. I took personal interest in this topic because it is the field I want to go into in the future.
What is happiness? The essay, “Three Simple Things,” the author gave us the definition of happiness from Dictionary.com as "an active or passive state of pleasure or satisfaction." In his own special way, the author writes about how friends, families, and his belief in God are the things that make him happy the most. Sure people may feel their happiness is being healthy and alive. There are many things that could make me happy, but the three that make me happy the most is spending time with my three girls, being with families, and fishing.
One of my weaknesses that I was quick to discover was that my use of grammar and punctuation was not as good as I thought it was. In high school, I had never faced any problem in those fields, but after a single assignment on capitalization in college, my confidence was shaken when I got a “C” grade on it. It was hard for
