Historically, there has been three campaigns or regimes recognized as a “Reich” or in English terms, an empire. You have the first Reich which was the Medieval Holy Roman Empire, which lasted up until 1806. Then you have second Reich better known as the German Empire, spanning a time period of 1871 -1918. And lastly, you have the third Reich, or what we commonly call Nazi Germany. Lasting a period of 1933-1945. Also known as World War 2.
In 1940, US allies, more specifically the Royal Air Force, conducted several bombing campaigns. These campaigns were in response to German air attacks against the British air force and their assets and focused primarily on the city of Berlin. Throughout these campaigns, over a million tons of bombs were dropped

It is rumored that Hitler was irate and as a response, order the construction of 3 massive fortifications. Fortifications resembling ugly concrete towers. These towers were soon to be called Flak Towers. These flak towers to be built and to serve as an air defense against allied bombers and were to be constructed in 3 separate cities: Berlin, Vienna, and Hamburg. Theses towers were designed to be complex and impenetrable. The first ever built standing as tall as 128 feet and having concrete walls as thick 8-14 feet thick. Each flak tower having a 2 part design or sub-towers if you. You had the G-tower or the combat tower. This is where all the heavy anti-aircraft weaponry was housed. There were 3 different versions of this specific tower built throughout the war. The final tower reaching a height of 175 feet. Then you had the L-tower or the command tower. Here, is where all commands and command teams operated. Standing anywhere between 300-500 meters from the G-tower, the L-tower had cables buried running between the two for communications. The L-tower wasn’t just a command tower. It was also equipped with retractable radars and housed anywhere between sixteen-forty 20 mm guns. Not only were these
However, because of the unreliability of bomber commands performance the Nazis managed to quickly control the situation. They ensured that no photographs or news reports were published from the bomb stricken reports meaning that the rest of Germany could only gather information from stories and tales. On top of this only a small part of Germany was bombed as the allied forces simply did not have the technology to reach the majority of the Reich. That it was relatively easy for the country to regroup, resulting in heavy retaliation and a continuous growth in German production. However, in the last years of the war bombing technology drastically improved and the attacks were relentless. As opposed to less than one quarter of bombs dropping within five miles of the target, each bomb now hit their target and inflicted maximum damage due to new aiming technology. Bombing raids were now performed twenty-four hours a day, in the night by Bomber Command and in the day by the heavily armoured bombers in the American 8th squadron. 1,500 bombers were now available after a huge increase in production speed, each with the
The Third Reich was Hitler’s Government. After Hitler was appointed Chancellor of Germany he had begun to eliminate all political oppositions and their powers. Hitler’s role is the Third Reich was leader. He is the one who brought the government to Germany and made it possible. Adolf’s rise in power wasn’t of the quick side. He ran for control three times and out of those three two times he lost to his opponent who was president at that time Paul von Hindenburg. Hitler took office in the year 1934 until the year 1945 when he died because of suicide.
On the night of September 7, 1940 Germany attacked Great Britain. “About every two minutes a new wave of planes would be over” (Pyle). They targeted the “gigantic dome of St. Paul's Cathedral”, along with many other populated places. “Flames seemed to whip hundreds of feet into the air” (Pyle). The smoke was so bad they you could barely see the St. Paul's Cathedral (“The Bombing of St. Paul's Cathedral, London, September 7,1940”)“On September 4, the Luftwaffe switched tactics again and, on Hitler's orders, set about destroying London and other major cities” (“BBC History-The Battle Of
Bombing two major cities may seem wrong but it was necessary in order to come out as a successful nation. During World War 2 on August 6th and 9th of 1945 the United States was the first country to use an atomic device against an enemy. This enemy was the country of Japan. After the Japanese killed thousands of U.S soldiers with their ruthless and unexpected attack on Pearl Harbour the United States released two atomic bombs on their two major cities. These cities were known as Nagasaki and Hiroshima. After the bombs were dropped the war was put to an end. The use of the atomic bombs is a widely debated topic on whether their use was necessary or not. The bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were not only necessary to end the war but it was also necessary because many American lives were lost.
The technological developments during the campaign affected the significance of the bombing of Germany during the Second World War. In 1939-1941, there were less planes, or navigational

The second was emphatically the first of a new era" . <br><br>"The British strategic bomber campaign was of doubtful cost effectiveness" . Bomber Command believed it was too risky to bomb by day, while the Americans believed it was too difficult to bomb by night. People have different views on the morality of this bombing. There are a few reasons the bombing can be considered ok and moral. Firstly this bombing can be viewed as payback for the London attack that the Nazis just did. Also the Nazi’s have been killing innocent Jews and other groups of people the entire war. Finally Dresden was being used as an industrial city. This would be a factor of why the bombing would be ok because the allies had to destroy the place where the Nazis built their weapons. The following reasons are why the bombing was wrong to do. Firstly the Nazi’s didn’t use Dresden as a key strategic city. For this reason, people asked why would the allies bomb a historic city and not a city that the Nazis used. Next the city couldn’t
“With its new aircraft, tactics, and superior numbers, New Operation Argument was launched”(Schill 80). Strategically, the mission was to achieve air superiority and immobilize Germany’s economy. The Eighth Air Force was in charge of targeting German electric power, transportation, petroleum, synthetic oil, and neutralize German air force”(Doolittle and Glines 295). Thus they launched seven consecutive days of visual bombing on February 19-25. Before conducting the official attack, Doolittle had his men practice fighting missions and maneuvers before conducting the operations. The attack was such a secret that airmen could not fly over German territory prior to the attack so that it would not compromise the future mission. Tactically, the Eighth Air Force had 3,300 heavy bomber sorties fly beside the Fifteenth Air Force consisting of 500 missions from Italy. In the meantime, “the Royal Air Force of Britain flew 2,750 night attacks aimed at German aircraft manufacturing plants (Olsen 82). After the “Big Week,” the United States gained air superiority over all of Europe. Operationally, Germany had undergone many months of decreased aircraft production during aircraft production during crucial time for them to counterattack. This resulted to Germany to having a small amount of German aircraft in the air and the rate of attrition of the Luftwaffe’s pilots to exceed Germany’s rate of
World War II was one of the deadliest military conflicts in history. There were many different battles that took place within this war; some more important than others. World War II began once Germany’s new dictator, Adolf Hitler, decided that he wanted to gain power for Germany and for himself. One of Hitler’s first moves in power was invading Poland on September 1, 1939. Many other countries became involved in this war because of the alliance system. The two sides during this war were the Allies and Axis powers. German, Italy and Japan were on the Axis powers; France, Britain, and the United States were on the Allies. Germany first began with the Blitzkrieg tactic meaning “lightning war”. This tactic is based on speed, surprise and was
From roughly 11:56 pm until 1 am the CIA annex was attacked by the same group. The militia attacked periodically using arms fire, and rocket¬-propelled grenades. While this was occurring, Local Libyans search the Mission Facility and located the Ambassador. They then transported the ambassador to a local hospital. After numerous attempts to revive the Ambassador, he was announced deceased due to smoke inhalation. At 1:15 am, a seven-man U.S. security team arrived from Tripoli at Benghazi airport. They immediately began negotiations with the local Libyan soldiers for security and vehicle 's to the Annex. At 4:30 A.M. after three hours of tough negotiations with the Libyan officials, they came to an agreement.
On the fateful day of May 13th 1985, the police decided to bomb the compound of the radical, motivated organization called MOVE. Leading up to the final confrontation, MOVE had been involved in many standoffs with the Philadelphia police and city government. Regardless of the complexity of the situation, there are no circumstances when dropping a bomb onto a residential neighborhood onto a house, full of men, women, and children, would be acceptable. The officials commanding the operation lacked a display of consideration for human lives, and also respect for the neighboring people and properties surrounding the MOVE compound. The MOVE bombing also epitomizes larger issues of both racial and class prejudices that are prevalent in American
Although bombing played a key role in destroying Germany and expedited the outcome of the war, it was not the underlying factor responsible for the loss of the war of Germany. Whilst the consequences of Allied bombing are numerous, there are several key ones such as the relationship with Britain and the Soviet Union, its subsequent effect on morale and the economy, along with the significance of bombing on the Eastern Front.
Hiroshima was such an ideal target for American bombing. According to the book, this was because the city was considered an important place for establishing a military command center. Another reason was that it was a place where communication would be coordinated from. It was the perfect city for militaries to station their operations in.
The Weimar Constitution was a genuine attempt to create a perfect democratic country. In his book The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich (1960), American historian William L. Shirer described the Weimar Constitution as "on paper, the most liberal and democratic document of its kind the twentieth century had ever seen ... full of ingenious and admirable devices which seemed to guarantee the working of an almost flawless democracy.” The constitution guaranteed equal rights to the German people, yet also contained the fundamental structural flaws that would play a major part in the Republic 's downfall (and thus the Nazi Party’s rise). Two clear examples of such weaknesses were the use of an excessively proportional electoral system and the
World War II officially began on September 1, 1939 the invasion of Poland. Adolf Hitler was wanting to conquer all of Europe and its living space. A military tactic used in World War II was “Blitzkrieg” a tactic designed to create disorganization among enemy forces through the use of mobile forces such as planes, artillery and tanks. Blitzkrieg meaning “lightning war” was first used in the invasion of Poland and later on officially established in the Invasion of France, Netherlands, and Belgium. Not only did the Germans use the tactic of blitzkrieg they also had a powerful army that consisted of four groups the: Luftwaffe(Air Force) ,Weimar(Regular Nazi Army) , SS (Special Forces), and the SA(Racially superior soldiers). Hitler almost conquered all of Europe, but there were some mistakes in this war that costed him the win such as: Dunkirk, The Invasion of Russia and the Allies victories.
