This is Thomas Cahills point in writing this book. He is opening your mind to think of views other than the ones you have already. What does Cahill want you to think when reading this book? Perhaps he wants you to empathize with the Jews and see how their life style set the pathway for the next religions to come. After reading this monograph it is quick to assume that Cahill is pushing his own views on to the reader. The books intentions are up to the readers interpretations. This style of writing is supposed to be used to help the reader better understand the text because it is more personable. Which makes his argument stronger. Cahill retells Hebrew scripture narratives in order to focus on the Jews’ growing understanding of their one and only God. He was a father to them one like they have never had before. This understanding more than anything, explains the Bible in elementary terms. Since the bible is the product of exchange through many hands over many ages, it is full of confusion for readers. Those readers who try to attempt to decode what it might be able to however, they may not fully understand the messages bought fourth in the text. Therefore Cahill decodes it for the readers.
